Clarksville is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Great Lakes region and sits on the eastern edge of Vincennes National Forest. Clarksville was founded in 1814 by Methodist missionaries from North Carolina who named it for James Clark, an American Revolutionary War soldier and signer of the Declaration of Independence. Clarksville became a retail center for coal mines in central Indiana after World War I, but has since regained its original prominence as a manufacturing center for textiles, shoes and other products throughout much of Midwest America. The first post office in Clarksville was established in 1816, and the first store opened in 1828. The community acquired its current name from Reverend John Payson Clark, a local preacher who served as president of Bloomington's First Baptist Church from 1865 to 1869 and helped found Clarksville Academy (now known as Drake University). In 1870, Clarksville voters adopted a new city charter that made it an incorporated municipality with full voting rights within its own government.

Clarksville is a small town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Clarksville is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settlers in Clarksville were Methodist missionaries who came from Greenfield Ohio in 1824. They founded what would become the Presbyterian Church there in 1830. The town was named for John Clements Clark, a general in the Union army during the American Civil War and founder of Vincennes, IN. Clarksville grew rapidly during the late 19th century because of its location on the main railway line between Indianapolis and Chicago. In 1892, a post office was established at Clarksville and it remained operational until 1966. During World War II, Clarksville served as an important military base for General Dwight Eisenhower's Allied forces occupying Germany during Operation Market Garden. After the war ended, many factories closed down and most residents left to return home or start new businesses elsewhere in Butler County. However, some people remain active in local politics today including Mayor Donnie Franks and Congressman Mike Pence (R-Indiana). Today's economy is based largely on agriculture with some manufacturing activity also taking place here; particularly cheese production which has been strong since Clarkesville became known for its high quality cheese products such as Roquefort and Gorgonzola

In 1828, Clarksville became the capital of Indiana. The city was renamed Indianapolis in 1836 after General Andrew Jackson's army captured the city during the Battle of Santa Clara de Asís. The city experienced growth until it reached its peak in the late 1800s when more than 1,000 people lived there. However, from then until the early 1920s, Indianapolis experienced decline as factories closed and jobs were lost.
