Clarksville is a small town in Clark County, Indiana, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Clarksville was founded in 1827 by Levi Booth and his family. The first post office in Clarksville was established in 1827. The townspeople named their settlement for General David Clarkson, who had fought against Native Americans during the War of 1812 and had been awarded a pension by President James K. Polk. In 1835, Claiborne Aiken opened a store in Clarksville and started to sell goods from his wagon shop on Main Street. He became one of the earliest settlers in Clarksville and did much to promote its growth. Aiken's store served as an important link between Clarksville and neighboring towns until it closed its doors in 1907 because of economic difficulties caused by prohibitionism among American farmers during that period. In 1867, Clyde Berry began farming land near Clarksville along with his brother Amos Berry II and their parents John Hinton Sr., Amasa Hinton III, Sarah Berryman (née Ballard), Alonzo Knowles and others under the name "Berry Brothers & Company." The brothers grew corn, wheat, hay and other crops; also operated a sawmill which produced lumber for local buildings; raised horses; processed milk from cows; built churches and schools; dusted off an old locomotive they called " Old No Name" for running passenger trains on local branch lines throughout the county; ran a stagecoach line from Bloomington to Lexington through ClarksVILLE several times per week until 1915 when that service ended due to overloading at one of their carriages . After World War I ended with Armistice Day celebrated on November 11th 1919, many people returned home after serving in various wars abroad or being discharged from military service than stayed behind to rebuild what had been destroyed during those hostilities includinganity businesses such as Litton Rubber Company (later Litton Homes) developed along with housing developments such as First National Bank Plaza Drive now known as State Road 59 North across from Interstate 465 Speedway
