Since World War II, Brownsburg has been a military deployment destination for civilians and military personnel. The Brownsburg Indian Wars fought between European settlers and the indigenous tribe of the same name in what is now central Indiana. The battle started on September 16, 1812 when a force of about seventy-five European soldiers and civilians were defeated by an estimated three hundred warriors from the tribe. The area now known as Brownsburg was part of the Shawnee Nation at the time of the conflict. On December 5, 1862, over one thousand white men, women, and children were massacred in what is now called Slaughterhouse Hill by Union General Edwin E. Burnside after he learned they had gathered to celebrate Christmas. This event is considered one of history's worst atrocities.

Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9999 which activated both branches of the military for wartime service in support of the US war effort. The War in Vietnam began on October 5th, 1975 when North Vietnamese forces attacked South Vietnamese positions at Thanh Hoa airbase. On November 3rd, 1975 North Vietnamese General Vo Nguyen Giap announced his plan to launch an all-out assault on South Vietnam with troops numbering up to fifty thousand men and boys. This attack led to Operation Neptune’s Spear which resulted in over one million casualties including over thirty thousand American soldiers and Marines killed or wounded. In World War II: As part of World War II mobilization efforts, President Roosevelt ordered extensive stockpiling of food and materials required for further mobilization during wartime production quotas set by Congress. These wartime production quotas were designed to ensure that America could meet its obligations under the 1940 Atlantic Charter with respect to self-defense within Western Europe while also ensuring that America would have enough material available for its own needs during world conflict should it arise again (the potentiality never occurred). After Pearl Harbor Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor upon learning about American plans to resist Imperial Japan's aggression against our allies (the Hawaiian Islands). American naval forces responded by launching a coordinated aerial campaign known as " Coral Sea ". This campaign successfully stopped Japanese advances towards Hawaii while causing significant damage to their navy and army units throughout Japan
The Brownsburg, Indiana area was once a part of the Vincennes Confederation of Indian Nations. The first white people to arrive in this area were the Conestoga Indians. The area was first settled by Dutch settlers in 1669. In 1795, the Ohio Company sent a group of settlers to what is now Brownsburg to prospect for oil. The town was founded on November 3, 1795 by General James Caldwell and his men after they discovered oil wells at Peebles Hill. When the United States became a country, it took over many of the governing responsibilities of the Indian nations. On January 6, 1802, Congress passed an act authorizing President George Washington to sell land in present-day Indiana for $5 million dollars. In 1803, President John Adams approved the sale and on December 15th, General James Caldwell arrived with his family to take up residence in what is now Brownsburg. He built a log cabin which still stands today as one of the earliest buildings in Brownsburg. In 1818, General James Caldwell sold land adjacent to where he had built his cabin near what is now Portsmouth Village for $10 per acre (the price increased over time). This allowed for another settler named Nicholas Griggs to come and build a home on this site which would become known as Griggsville. In 1830-31, local farmers began crop rotation so that they could grow corn and other crops while also using their barns and outbuildings as stores or homes. This type of agriculture would later be called “ Granger” farming because it was developed by Major General Nathaniel Granger who served under Colonel Samuel Granger during the American Revolution. Eventually other families started moving into these pioneer settlements including those from Paducah County who began calling their community “Brownsburg” after their original homesteading place about 20 miles east of Paducah City (later Paducah). On July 10th 1870,, Brownsburg residents voted unanimously to annex neighboring Portsmouth Village due to lack of choice between joining eithertown or becoming an independent city pursuant to article IX section 11(a) of The Constitution thereof__________ . This annexation occurred without any bloodshed as both towns had previously agreed not to compete with each other for services rendered by eithertown through contracts dating back several years prior thereto___________ On September 12th 1870 there were only 413 residents living in Brownsburg when it annexed PortsmouthVillage giving rise thenumberto 1K citizens within 4 years
