However, withthe growth of Terre Haute County and new industries such as manufacturing and agriculture, Brownsburg began to experience significant growth again by 1890. At that time, the town had a population of 1,500 people. Brownsburg experienced another period of growth during World War I; however, this time it slowed considerably because so much lumber production was diverted to help support military activities overseas. In 1919-1920 however, Brownsburg experienced an influx of refugees from Dayton after severe floods destroyed most of that city's infrastructure. This led to increased business activity for both businesses and individuals within the community as they sought to rebuild following what had been one of history's most catastrophic natural disasters
