Beech Grove is a small town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settlers in Beech Grove were Levi and Nancy Hutton who arrived in 1792. They built a cabin on the banks of the Ravenna River. The community was named after Beech Grove Chapel which had been established in 1827 by Reverend John Mackay and his wife Susanna Lilly. Dr. Eli Applewhite served as moderator of the first Methodist Church service held in Beech Grove on October 25, 1829. In 1851, Mrs. Sarah Ladd moved to Beech Grove from Camden Township and started her own grocery store with her daughter-in-law Anna Burchardt from Wabash Township. In 1865, James Kline opened his dry goods store next door to Mrs. Ladd's store and continued to sell groceries until he discontinued operations in 1903 due to health concerns related to an illness that later became known as tuberculosis; he had operated as an Independent grocer for many years before this event). The post office was established at Beech Grove on December 12, 1851, under the name of Camden Station (later renamed Pulaski). It was changed to its present name on January 3, 1907 when it merged with Beech Grove Presbyterian Church (now First Presbyterian Church), which had been founded in 1846 by Revs Amos Healey and Augustus Caldwell Smith Sr.. On November 8th 1921 (the day after President Woodrow Wilson announced that America would enter World War I), citizens of Beech Grove raised money for war bonds by selling fire hydrants which they used to light up Independence Hall during a patriotic parade led by Mayor Harry Fenton; local businesses also donated goods for sale including shoeshines and candy bars . On September 1st 1928 a tornado touched down just outside of town limits causing extensive damage; however no injuries occurred because most people within town limits did not evacuate because they were indoors at home or went out into the open fields where there was more danger from flying objects than from natural disasters such as tornadoes。 After World War II ended there wasn't much development take place until 1970 when Joe & Rita Deacon bought land off US 31 east of town Limits approximately 1/4 mile north of their property line which now houses what is known as Discount Tire along with numerous other businesses including restaurants etc., making it one of those "old" towns back then again with all these businesses clustered together like this you don't see them anymore but back then it made sense because everyone who lived here worked here so everything kind of blended together like one big family
