Beech Grove is a small town in Delaware County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Beech Grove was a group of French traders who landed on the shore of Lake Michigan in 1697. Beech Grove was founded by Nicholas Longueville in 1814 and named for beech trees that were then being grown hereabouts. The first school in Beech Grove was built in 1821 and served as the only school until1873 when a new school building was erected. In 1865, Dr. James Witherspoon came to live in Beech Grove and he started teaching at the local high school which later became Mishawaka High School. In 1875, Dr. Witherspoon donated land for an agricultural college which would become Purdue University-West Lafayette (later Purdue University). The first students arrived at Purdue-West Lafayette on October 17, 1875 under the leadership of Professor Isaac Newton Cushing (1812-1892). Over time, other faculty members such as John Fayette Harding (1837-1916) and Rollin Stevens developed strong ties with Purdue- West Lafayette including becoming presidents of both schools/colleges during their careers: Harding from 1915–1927; Stevens from 1935–1945. During World War II, Beech Grove participated actively in various shortages program activities such as collecting war supplies through personal contact with citizens throughout the area and even having door‑to‑door canvassingOperation Varsity Blues began on July 25th 1944 when around 100 residents gathered outside Captain Harry Sledge’s home located east of town limits near US 219 about 10 miles west of Terre Haute on behalf of respective American war effort items needed within our community please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns please also see attached photo album for more information

Beech Grove is a town in DeKalb County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Beech Grove is part of the Indianapolis–Frankfort metropolitan area. It is located on the National Road (U.S. Route 66) and has a small shopping center and four churches: First Baptist Church, Methodist Episcopal Church, Presbyterian Church, and Lutheran Cathedral of America. Beech Grove was founded in 1854 by John Gentry and his family as a post office named after beech trees that were located in what is now the town limits. The first settler in Beech Grove was John Gentry who arrived with his family from England in 1854. He platted what became Beech Grove on land he had purchased from the government for $1,000 cash plus 10% interest payable every year until it matured to $2,500. The first school in Beech Grove was built on a site donated by Mr. Gentry and operated for two years under teacher Mrs. Hinton before being moved to present day First Baptist Church which served as the village's only public school until 1903 when it became racially segregated by whites only educationally- inclined students who used their own property as their school building untilifted to second story status between 1914-1918 when Second Avenue School opened which served all grades through high school; then finally Third Baptist church serving grades K-12 opened 1929 also becoming racially segregated only incidentally during this time period because white residents wanted their children attending black-owned schools not run by white educators therefore Third Baptist closed its doors 1957 instead of 1949 when race integrated PTA/ churches across DeKalb County did so starting with First Baptist DeKalbburg School 1951 The current zoning ordinance Ordinance M 790 dated 5/28/1985 allows religious worship services conducted within 500 feet (150 m) of an elementary or secondary school - providing these services are not proselytizing or promotional tours for any other business establishment within that radius without prior written consent from both elementary/secondary schools involved thereby making "the good Samaritan" exception available including preschools up to grade 3 adult classes open unto 8th graders no matter how many times they have been previously visited each day provided there are no more than three such visits per calendar day In recent years some people have protested against this new zoning ordinance stating that worship services should not be Proselytizing or promotional tours taking place near public schools while others maintain that allowing such activitiesnear educational institutions provides opportunities for learning experiences beyond those typically available at home thereby stimulating social growth rather than just navel gazing It should be noted that Reverend Drayton stated "If we're going to do anything about this issue I think we ought to get organized" during a meeting convened by Mayor Donald Stephenson on 6/3/2010 To Which Mayor Stephenson replied "I'm all for getting organized if Reverend Drayton wants to organize us" This indicates that there may be more pushback than support forthcoming from city officials toward further regulation of religious activity located closeto educational institutions however given previous events it seems likely that greater regulat
