Beech Grove is a small town in the state of Indiana, United States. The population was 1,295 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dearborn Heights, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was laid out in 1871 and named for Beech Grove Cemetery, which was located in nearby Hudsonville. In 1893, the post office moved to Beech Grove from Hudsonville and changed its name to DeKalb County. The first school in Beech Grove open its doors on December 6, 1887. The first female teacher taught in Beech Grove in 1931. In early 1942, General Dwight D. Eisenhower became the last Ulysses S. Grant president when he was elected as the 43rd president of America with a majority of electoral votes (57% to 41%). On January 20th of that year Congress passed Executive Order 9066 which activated all military forces throughout World War II and ordered all citizens to report any German nationals living within their borders immediately. Many people were afraid of being drafted into the war because they didn’t know what would happen if they did not answer their questions about their family members who may have been living inside Nazi Germany; however many residents decided to report any suspected German citizens anyways because they didn’t want their loved ones caught up in this conflict or worse yet placed between Axis powers and themselves while fighting against them overseas. On July 10th 1943 during World War II there was an attack on USS Indianapolis by Japanese sailors using kamikazes flying over Pearl Harbor resulting inthe death of more than 2,000 American sailors including Lieutenant Commander James Wickersham (the only officer killed during Pearl Harbor). Beech Grove is a town in Harrison County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,681 at the 2010 census. Beech Grove is part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area. The first settler in Beech Grove was Levi Sillis who came to the area in 1814. Beech Grove proper was founded in 1836 by James Fenton and others as a stagecoach stop on the road from Terre Haute to Indianapolis. The community grew rapidly after being founded, with new buildings being erected on land bought from farmers and lumberjacks. By 1860, Beech Grove had a post office, schoolhouse and well-constructed millinery business which prospered until it burned down in 1876. It wasn't until 1886 that an electric light company became operational and began providing illumination to the town. In 1907-8 Beech Grove built its first retail building when Wm Jaffe opened his hardware store at Fourth Street and State Road 10th Avenue. In 1916 local residents organized their own government under the name of Township Government No 2 with James Kapp as township treasurer and Aiken Dickson as editor of the "Beech Grove Gazette". The following year saw another development when Trotwood National Bank moved into a two story brick building at Third Street and State Road 8th Avenue which served as their headquarters for many years before it was destroyed by fire in 1978. After years of growth and progress during which numerous stores were opened along State Road 10th Avenue (now US 31) including three now defunct gas stations one IMAX theater and several restaurants Ohana Hawaiian Grill closed its doors permanently around 2006 leaving behind much evidence of its past success such as a large garage still used today by various businesses including an ice cream parlor milkshake restaurant called Kahlua's Donuts while also containing multiple layers of asbestos insulation - all typical signs that old buildings can succumb to time but remain structurally sound (and often attractive properties for sale). Since then other businesses have cropped up such as Waffle House ($) replaced Ohana Hawaiian Grill while several small shops have opened up such as Dollar General ($) replaced Waffle House while also adding more parking spaces for customers near Main Street plus larger back yards for residents who want to enjoy their property despite current conditions including frequent power outages due to storms or natural disasters
