Bedford, Indiana is a small town in centralIndiana. The population was 2,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. Bedford was founded in 1785 by Nicholas Bedford and his brother John. The first post office in Bedford opened in 1824. In 1859, the name of the town was changed to Bedford-on-the-Hudson after General George Washington's birthplace. In 1907, the name of the town was changed again to Bedford Township because it had become too large for its original village form. The early residents were farmers who raised corn, hay, and wheat on their farms; later they became involved in manufacturing and trades such as blacksmithing and printing press building. A major industry during the late 19th century was trade with neighboring Indiana towns which produced goods such as cloth, paper products, boots and shoes, soapstone bricks and mortar (a type of construction), cigars, lead ore (from lead mines near Rochester), cheese (from nearby Westville), eggs (from local hens) and other produce. In 1925–1927 when Interstate 10 was built through centralIndiana bypassing Bedford Township – one result was that most factories closed down along with many retail businesses including grocery stores and other services close to I-10 motorway exits thereby reducing economic activity in that township by about 50%. However some new businesses have started up since then like a pet store which reopened after owner Bobbie Crouse retired from her job as a cashier at Weiland's department store on Main Street just east of I-10 exit 15A south; this business has seen increased traffic since I-10 opened up

In 1955, the USAF deployed the gift of a McDonnell-Douglas F4 Phantom II jet fighter to the Royal Air Force. The RAF received two aircraft and was able to train with them for three years. In 1960, they were transferred to the Egyptian Air Force and used against Arab nationalist rebels in Sinai. During this time, one of the aircraft caught fire and crashed into a mountain range near Rafah in western Egypt. The RAF was able to recover both pilots and flew them back to England where they underwent Further Training at Shepherds Bush AFB before being assigned to No. 7 Group at RAF Northolt Park, London. In 1967, No. 7 Group moved from Northolt Park to High Wycombe Airport where it became part of No 3 Group which was responsible for training NATO members flying supersonic jets such as the Mirage IIIE/F family of planes. In 1970, No 3 Group relocated again when it became part of Tactical Air Command (TAC) which was then responsible for all American Aerospace Defense Command (AADC) assets worldwide including fighter squadrons stationed overseas). As TAC grew larger than AADC, 737 Wing Headquarters under Commander LtGen Douglas MacArthur assumed command on 1 Jul 1971 effective 1 August 1971 when ADC relinquished its responsibility for all US military forces afloat outside Vietnam within Vietnam except those conducting air support operations inside that country - this change included also US helicopter assets operated by AAF units not normally associated with ground forces but which were operational independently from other USAF commands e.g., 5th Helicopter Wing at Tan Son Nhut AB). 737 Wing Headquarters continued under Commander LtGen Herb Albright until his retirement on 15 Sep 1977; during his tenureWing Headquarters increased its size from 80 officers and 847 enlisted personnel up to 1215 officers and 1750 enlisted personnel - making it one of America's most diverse wings with over 120% female representation].
Bedford is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 3,844 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bedford County. The first settlers in what is now Bedford County were two families from Connecticut, who arrived on horseback in 1788. The towns of Bedford and Lima were founded soon thereafter, and by 1800 there were 10 buildings in Bedford County. The county seat was moved to Peru in 1821 when that city became the state capital of Indiana. Godfrey Dobbins had purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) of land east of Peru for $2 per acre in 1827 and named it Whitewater Township after his stream which flowed through it. In 1830 he sold additional land to J.H. Smith, who donated another 220 acres (100 hectares). By 1840 Whitewater Township included all of present-day Bedford County as well as parts of Johnson and LaPorte counties along its banks; the area now known as Peru had not yet been surveyed or platted. In 1841, David Stephenson bought 400 acres (160 hectares) northwest of Bedford from Godfrey Dobbins; this became Stephenson Township and still includes part of present-day Peru. In 1851 Stephenson built the first store building in what is now Peru; today's business district around this original structure dates back to the early 20th century when electricity began Toei Street Railway Company service to nearby Bloomington across Lafayette Street. During World War II, much activity took place within the small town limits: munitions plants operated out of Menard Army Ammunition Plant on Eighth Street between First Avenue and Third Avenue during 1944–1945; soldiers living near I-469/Upper Arlington Road served with distinction during World War II as members of company "A" battalion Headquarters Company detachment at Ft.. Wayne Arsenal Ammunition Plant; post office services continued until 1946 when they were transferred to Bloomington due to wartime growth
