One of the earliest coffeehouses in Avon was The Coffee House on Third Street. It was opened in 1868 by John H. Ferguson, who had started out as a grocery clerk at local store No. 2 on Commerce Street. The Coffee House served coffee until 1971 when it moved down Third Street to its current location on Main Street. Over time, other important coffeejars have cropped up in Avon – including The Dutchman’s Cafe (1907), White Horse Tavern (1910), and Brown’s Brewery (1915). All three businesses were part of a larger chain that operated throughout central Indiana. At its peak, the company employed around 20 people and sold more than 1 million cups of coffee each year. Avon was founded in 1825 as a small farming community by Revolutionary War veterans Edward and Kitty Avon. In 1870, it became the site of one of the first oil refineries in America. The area now known as Avon was renamed for Anita Welles Booth in 1912 after she contributed money to help promoteavonite products. The city has experienced significant growth over the years; its population reached 10,000 residents in 2000 and 12,500 residents by 2010. By 1830, French traders had begun importing large quantities of beans from Africa into France; this caused a rise in quality because fewer farmers were producing purebred beans instead relying on hybrids or processed beans (raw materials). As a result, some pure-bred Ethiopian beans became available which helped improve flavor while reducing caffeine content (see Ethiopia Coffee article). Coffee production increased rapidly throughout much of the 19th century due to increased demand from both consumers and businesses alike for higher quality beans (see Bean Production article). By 1870, more than 2 million pounds per day were being exchanged between European countries alone; this represented an increaseof 400% over what had been done just 10 years earlier! This growth was driven by technological advancements such as water heating systems that made possible larger yields and improved manufacturing processes (see An Overview Of Coffee History]). Korean immigrants who arrived in Seattle during World War II brought with them the love affair with espresso that they had back home – so strong was their attachment to this beloved beverage! With more mills capable of turning out high-quality Kopi Luwak concentrate products than ever before, Starbucks couldn’t keep up with demand for its dark roast varieties! Today we still enjoy some great Indonesian coffees using lower processing techniques but at least we can purchase them fresh off the farm!
