Anderson, Indiana is home to two of the world's first small batch coffee roasters. In 1976, Bob Evans opened his first location in Anderson and began production of what would become known as "Bob's Red Mill Coffee." The business grew rapidly and by 1984, Bob had purchased a second location in the heart of downtown. Today, Bob's Red Mill Coffee is one of the largest small batch coffee businesses in the United States and continues to produce high quality coffee at its original locations throughout the Midwest. In 1985, Gary Vandemare started GV&G Coffee Company out of a garage in Anderson. At only 12 employees, GV&G was the smallest smallbatch coffee company until it merged with another smaller business in 2002 to form multi-national conglomerate Starbucks. However, Vandemare's passion for small batch brewing still lives on at GV&G Coffee Company where they continue to produce specialty coffees under their own name (including our popular Robusto Blend) and sell direct from their storage tanks. While there are many other great stories about origins and growth for small batch coffee companies like Bob's Red Mill Coffee and GV&G Coffee Company - we wanted to focus on one particular moment in time when these firms came together: when they created what would eventually become Starbucks' flagship flavor: Robusto blend! In recent years, Anderson has seen growth due to its role as home to Purdue University's Grand Rapids Campus as well as several new businesses such as Apple Music satellite radio service provider Beats by Dre and John Deere dealership; both locations opened prior to the city's incorporation into the city limits of Gary on November 14th, 2017

Anderson, Indiana was originally a small, frontier town in the Northwest Territory of Indiana. The first settler in Anderson was James A. Williamson in 1827. In 1830, the community became part of the territorial government of Indiana and had its first courthouse built. In 1835, Anderson became a city and it had its first school established that year. The city was incorporated on December 14, 1855; and by 1865, it had an population of around 150 people. In 1907, Anderson became an international port and hosted the world's largest peacetime naval display at its waterfront dockyard when United States President Theodore Roosevelt visited during his "Socialists for America" tour of America. In 1916, Anderson was renamed Indianapolis after Andrew Johnson as a tribute to his successful presidency as Vice President.
