The Anderson Aviation Museum is home to the world's largest collection of Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft and memorabilia. The museum was opened in 1953 by then-Mayor Tom Watson. The current location, on the grounds of the old Anderson Field Municipal Airport, has been a museum since 1957. The first Lockheed P-38 Lightning was delivered to the United States Air Force on October 22, 1943. It served as the basis for many subsequent planes in the USAF inventory including the F-4 Phantom II and F-5E Tiger II. The Museum's collection also includes an extensive diversity of other types of aircraft from World War II onwards including fighter, bomber and reconnaissance planes. On July 15th, 1959, President Eisenhower presented General Curtis LeMay with a gift certificate for $3 million for building two more squadrons of Lockheed P-38s at Holloman AFB in New Mexico. This gift represented not only a significant donation but also began what would prove to be an enduring relationship between America's two biggest military aviation providers – Douglas Aircraft Company and Lockheed Corporation – which continues to this day. In 1979 President Jimmy Carter awarded General John Shalikashvili with a gift certificate for $2 million for contributing funds towards building four new squadrons of Lockheed P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol jets at Andersen AFB in Guam

The Anderson-area air force gift history goes back to World War II. The Anderson Municipal Airport was the home of the 9th Fighter Squadron, which was activated in 1942. The squadron flew Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters. In 1945, when the war ended, the squadron moved to Fort Wayne and was disbanded. In 1947, the 9th Fighter Squadron re-activated as part of Air Defense Command's 8th Bomb Wing at Fort Wayne Regional Airport. From 1947 until 1959, it operated Lockheed F-4 Phantom aircraft from this airport. In 1957 and 1958, the wing also activated Boeing B-47 Stratojet bombers from this airport for deployment on strikes against North Korea and Cuba respectively. In 1961 the 8th Bomber Wing relocated to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base located in Decatur County and became known as 1st Bomb Wing (Air Defense). This wing still operates Boeing B-52 Stratofortresses today as part of United States Air Forces in Europe (USAF Eu). In 1969 1st Bomb Wing (Air Defense) reactivated at Seymour Johnson AFB with McDonnell Douglas A-7 Corsair jet aircraft providing air defense cover over Iwo Jima during Operation Downfall. These jets were retired in 2002 but remain on display at Seymour Johnson AFB museum In 1975 a group of officers from Headquarters Fifth Air Force stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB decided they would like to start a storefront sales operation so they set up shop on an old ammunition depot next door to their barracksblock. The first sale took place on November 15th 1975 with Lieutenant Colonel Bob Hildreth presenting items such as Army surplus clothing and rifles to servicemen who were visiting town for Thanksgiving dinner that year."
Anderson, Indiana, is a city in and the county seat of Addison County, Indiana. The population was 2,702 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area. The city was founded in 1824 by James Anderson and his wife Esther. Anderson's economy is based on research and development for pharmaceuticals and other products, as well as manufacturing of consumer goods such as cars and home appliances. More than half of all jobs in Anderson are related to research and development; another third are in manufacturing. In addition to its two universities – Purdue University (primarily in engineering) and Central High School – Anderson has a number of businesses which provide services to residents including restaurants, health care providers, banks, professionals, mechanics etcetera.
Air force gift history is a long and often forgotten story. There have been many different types of gifts given to the USAF, but the most common are decorations and medals. Medals are given in many different colors and styles, as well as for many different occasions. The colors may be blue, black, olive green, white or any other color that is worn by Air Force officers. Many people do not even realize that there was a time when the USAF did not have an insignia system. This was because it was thought that all USAF officers were alike and would wear the same insignia on their uniforms no matter what country they were from. However, this was not the case at all. In fact, there were several different countries that had their own style of decoration for Air Force officers. Some of these countries included Italy, Japan, China and South Korea. The decorations that were given to Air Force officers varied quite a bit depending on what country they came from. For example, some Italian officer's might receive a gold buckler with a silk ribbon around it while others might get a bronze plaque with an inscription in Italian or Greek upon it. Other countries also gave different types of medals such as silver stars or golden stars which means various things like bravery or heroism etcetera.. One of the most common type of medal given to Air Force officers is the Silver Star Medal . This medal is typically awarded to airmen who have risked their lives in action during combat situations over a period of three years or more (or more if they have served multiple tours). Additionally, if an airman has received two Silver Stars within five years then they areeligible for the Gold Star Medal which is also known as The Congressional Gold Medal . Finally, any airman who has been decorated with both Silver Stars and Gold Stars can be awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross which is also referred to as The George Washington Award . All these awards are specific to individual cases so it is hard to say whether or not they ever happened actually although there seems to be some evidence support this idea*. Another common type of medal given out by the USAF is called AEF Legend Medals . These medals were first instituted in 1984 and commemorate members who have made significant contributions towards aerospace exploration* (*This article does not mention how these medals work.) They come in various designs including one depicting an airplane wingsuit jumping off into space * (*This article does not mention how these medals work.) Furthermore, each member must complete four years service before being able to wear one* (*This article does not mention how these medals work.) Lastly, only those individuals who earn at least 25% overall points on every event during their career will be allowed approval for wearing an AEF Legend Medal

Anderson is a small town in the eastern Indiana county of Anderson. The population was 7,546 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN- Hammond, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Town of Anderson was organized in 1837 and named for General Lafayette. The first post office was established in 1839. In 1847, the town had a population of 914 and began to grow rapidly thanks to its location on the banks of the Chicago River. By 1860, Anderson had a population of 242 and became an important port for goods coming from Illinois and Michigan. Railroads arrived in Anderson shortly thereafter and by 1870, it had become one of the largest rail towns in Indiana with over 1,000 businesses employing more than 2,000 people. Growth stagnated during World War II due to lack of manufacturing jobs but has resumed since that time with bursts of growth throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s culminating in recent successes including becoming one of the fastest-growing cities in America (2010 rank #1) and being ranked 5th nationally for qualityof life ( 2008 rank #1). Anderson’s rich history can be traced back to its earliest days when settlers arrive from Kentucky en route to what would become Evansville. On November 6th, 1837 – just four months after General Lafayette moved his headquarters from Vincennes to Fort Dearborn – settlers met at Old Hennepin Road east of present day downtown Anderson under leadership by Captain John Auldridge who announced that he would name their new settlement “Anderson” after General Lafayette himself as tribute for all he had done for Americans during their war against France three years earlier while also pledging individuals & families “to make this place an adobe home as soon as possible” (Boydston Chronicles Volume VII: p 8). This inaugural meeting laid out some basic features which remain integral to township today: a square mile radius around downtown; 3 miles wide central square surrounded by homes on two sides only; private property within limits defined by boundaries delineated by water frontage; each family owning up to 125 acres within their own lots/square mile; African American residents were allowed into certain areas such as Greeneville on land leased from white farmers until it was ceded back following Indian removal policy known as Trail's End Manifesto that ended forced transportationations across state lines beginning with Indiana Jones & The Raiders movie soundtrack release party held at White Sands Missile Range located east off I-465 about 4 miles south west Of present day downtown Anderson One year later on December 12th1838 anti-Indian violence erupted when pro-west settlers angry over perceived raiding actions committed several buildings & killed three whites near what is now called Spring Creek Park which lies just north east Of present day Downtown Anderson . At this point most likely many other settlements followed suit & began calling themselves "Anderson" without any actual connection withGeneral Lafayette or anything else connected thereto beyond simply having been given a local identifier.. With increasing tensions developing between different groups living within boundaries determined by geography rather then right or wrong behavior these initial "Andersonites" quickly realized they needed something more concrete because things tended towards chaos pretty easily... they set about creating ordinances defining specific rightsbouroughly bounded areas including streets names etcetera&setting up government buildings like Post Office etcetera.........In short time very little!! These artifacts give us insight into how daily life functioned during those early days............. Some interesting facts surrounding early community development include; In 1847 pioneer James Denton donated land adjoining present day downtown street grid - corner lot number 122 - forming what is now Ladies Market Square.......................................James Denton also donated $5 per acre towards infrastructure building costs...............The first school house built near current intersection OF Main Street AND Applecross Rd - built circa 1840....................School ship 'Pioneer' docked here July 15th 1850.................................This commodious structure still stands.....It served as schoolhouse until 1953.......Many notable citizens associated with this Early Community Development include: Captains John Auldridge (later mayor), James Denton (founder), David Fowler (builder), Samuel Downs(builder), Ebenezer Mckenzie(famed printing press maker), Elijah Hicks(railroad baron), Cornelius Vanderbilt(railroad president) ...........Many descendants live in current day downtown area including Mayor Tony Wehner
Anderson was founded in 1824 by John Anderson and his wife, Catharine. It is noted for being the birthplace of General George Armstrong Custer.
