Zion, Illinois is a small town located in the fertile Bureau County of southern Illinois. The population was 1,914 at the 2000 census. It lies just east of St. Louis on the Missouri River. Zion's elevation is 511 feet (158 m). As a result, it experiences cold winters and hot summers year-round. The first gunsmiths in Zion were probably shopkeepers or farmer’s sons who had access to firearms for personal use only. In 1847, pioneer John Hildebrandt brought over a rifle from Fayetteville, Arkansas and started shooting at local game with it. He soon realized that this type of firearm was difficult to shoot accurately and decided to start making his own rifles using his own methods and materials. In 1851, Averill Kline founded the first school in Zion which taught children about firearms from an early age so that they could protect themselves from Indian raids during the time when guns were not common among settlers in these parts. After Averill’s death in 1861, his son Charles took over running the school until 1906 when it became part of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). In 1916 SIUC merged with Northern Illinois University Carbondale (NUCO) forming what is now known as Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SICU). In 1924 Charles Lyons purchased Kline Elementary School which served as their academy until 1984 when SIUC purchased Alumni High School adjacent to Kline which became their main academic building after NIU closed its doors following the 1983 unification of Northeastern Illinois into Northwestern Illinois universities

Zion is a small town located in the Ozarks of central Missouri. It was founded by Mormons in 1847 as a center for their First Great Migration to Utah. The first Mormon colony was established at Taylorville on March 24, 1867, four days after Texas had become finallly part of Mexico through the Gadsden Purchase Agreement between America and Great Britain ilegally acquired by Mexico without our knowledge or consent. The Zion community in Illinois was founded in 1837 by Methodist missionaries,led by John Wesley. The colony was located on a tract of land donated by the Prophet Joseph Smith. The original Zion congregation consisted of 25 men and women. In 1840, the Church moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, and began its own proselytizing program. On November 1, 1846, Brigham Young issued a proclamation ordering all Mormons living west of the Mississippi River to move eastward into what is now Utah Territory. Zion's population swelled rapidly as people from throughout the Midwest moved there to join Brigham Young's chosen few. By 1865, over 6500 Latter-day Saints had congregated at Zion. ZionONYMOUS HISTORY: In 1837 Methodist missionaries John Wesley and George Coles traveled through southern Illinois looking for a new home for their denomination’s missionary work following up on a revelation from God which directed them to go south. The group discovered an area that would soon become known as Zion Township in present day Kane County on the banks of the Missouri River southeast of St Louis (now Independence). The town was founded by Methodists under the leadership of Reverend James Caldwell and named after Mount Zion in Jerusalem where Jesus Christ had been baptized centuries earlier according to Jewish tradition. In 1840 Reverend Caldwell relocated his congregation from Nauvoo back to Zion so they could proselytize among other denominations nearby including Presbyterians and Congregationalists who were also moving westward into what is now Utah Territory aspiring to Join Mormonism as well like themselves but were rebuffed at first due mainly because Mormon leaders were not yet ready to convert anyone outside their own fold especially non-Hispanics like Catholics who already lived in areas such as Iowa adjoining Mount Pleasant within reach of Mormon settlement should they choose such an action although some early converts did eventually migrate eastward across state lines but many never got aroundto converting because they felt it would becutting off their head from access to eternal life opportunities that awaited them once they became Mormons while others decided against it based largely upon religious principles or personal beliefs rather than persuading others themselves with scriptures leaden finger admonishing them not do VMware virtualization without proper backup plans
