Yorkville is a small town in Putnam County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Yorkville was founded in 1836 by John and Nancy York as an agricultural village on a tract of land that he donated to the community. The name "Yorkville" comes from the Yorkshire Fells located nearby. The first settler in Yorkville was George Stephenson who platted the village in 1836 and named it after his birthplace, York Hall on the border of Nottinghamshire and England. In 1840, Yorkvillians voted to secede from Putnam County and form their own government which they did with the name of Township of Yorkville according to their new constitution ratified on May 12th, 1841. John Prentice built a gristmill on what would become known as Prentice's Prairie in 1846. In 1860, Presley & Company erected a school for grades one through twelve called First Christian Schoolhouse which remains standing today as one of only two surviving buildings from that time period in Yorkville In 1865, Second Presbyterian Church also became operational becoming one of only two churches still standing from that time period within YORKVILLE In 1870-71 William Hine opened his grocery store at 5 Broad Street which would become one of the most wellknown businesses within YORKVILLE until its closure in 1984 On July 1st 1890anti- immigrant riots took place throughout America resulting in over 50 injuries and 3 deaths including John Gorman who died when riots broke out at his job site near Northwestern Avenue and Aurora Road

Yorkville is a small town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1854 by John York and his family as Yorkville Township. The name of the town was changed to Yorkville in 1892 when it became part of Village of Easton. In 1960, Yorkville became an independent community governed by a board of trustees appointed by the village president. In 2000, the township and village were merged into one municipality with a single government. The new municipality has a population of 2,595 people and includes all of the former township as well as portions of the current village. Yorkville is located at (41.569769, -87.855836). According to the 2010 census, Yorkville has a total area of , all land. The first settler in what is now Yorkville was John York who arrived on horseback from Maryland in 1834 He built a cabin on what is now Ulysses Road and named it "Yorkvil". He and his wife lived there until he died in 1847 leaving behind two children: Sarah (born 1835) and John Mosey (born 1837). Sarah married Samuel Hickey about 1850 which seems to have caused some confusion because Hickey's certificate lists him as born December 12th 1798 not January 10th 1800 like Sarah's certificate does Samuel Hickey did eventually move out west but left behind three children: Mary Jane (1851-1931), Anna Maria (1853-1946), and James Robert Hickey Sr.(1855-1922). They are buried together at Maple Grove Cemetery near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where James Robert Jr.'s gravestone reads "Samuel Valentine Hickey JunrMarch 15 1865 Dec 21 1924 son Of James R & Anna Maria" which makes him - quite literally - 6 years older than anyone else listed on that stone! But even more interestingly is that his father actually died March 15th 1865 so Sam Valentine must have been born around then also! This fact alone makes for an interesting story told by many residents of our little town who claim their ancestors came here through this connection ! Another early settler from this area was Michael O'Keefe who arrived about 1840 along with his brother Nicholas O'Keefe From Waterford County Ireland . He started homesteading about six miles east of present day Hullvillle on what today is known as Greenbush Road . His daughter may have married George Smith from nearby Griggs after she moved there with her widowed mother around 1840 or so according to local history books
Yorkville was founded in 1836 by General George Armstrong Custer, who purchased the land from the Native Americans. The town was named for York County, Pennsylvania, where he had been born. The first post office was established in 1837, and the first store opened in 1840. In 1847, the Illinois Central Railroad arrived in Yorkville and began serving the town. development of the town occurred slowly until after World War II when heavy industry moved into nearby Carbondale and other towns. By 1970, Yorkville had a population of about 60 people and it is still growing today.
