Woodridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered by Winnetka to the north, Morris Heights to the east, Oak Park to the south, and Berwyn to the west. The community was formed in 1887 when two railroad companies merged. Woodridge derives its name from General James K. Wood (1785-1856), one of Illinois's first U.S. governors and a brigadier general in the Union army during the American Civil War who later served as a U.S. Senator from Illinois before dying in office at age 71 near Quincy, Massachusetts on November 28, 1856 after being shot through his right eye by John Brown while rallying compatriots against him at Harpers Ferry). According to one source: “A post office called ‘Woodridge’ was established in 1851 [in what is now Elmhurst], but it never received any mail because there were no trees around then! The first settler in this area was Elijah Dunham who arrived about 1840†In 1886 another group of settlers arrived led by Major J P Marsh who named their new village after himself – “Marshwood†meaning Marsh Farmstead or Village on Long Island Sound where he had been born and raised just prior to his arrival in America some 25 years earlier on December 3rd 1784 as son of Jonathan Marsh of Westchester County New York (the only child of English parents born within 100 miles of New York City at that time) According to Battery Commander Augustus DeWolfe Ogden's history of Woodridge "In early 1887 lumber merchants Isaac Hecker & Sons purchased an abandoned lot near present day First Avenue and State Street for $5 per acre" which they used as their own depot yards until 1907 when they moved across streets onto larger lots . Today most evidence remaining from that early development can be found on First Avenue between State and Washington Streets today known locally as Hecker Place serving both residents and businesses since 1907 According to oral history researcher Florence Berryman Hecker lived here with his family until 1902 when he sold land along Wabash avenue for $6 per acre making him one of first farmers outsideChicagoland !!!" The history of gourmet coffee begins with Dutch roasters Peet's and Koffiehuis in Amsterdam. In 1967, they opened what would become known as Peet's Gourmet Coffee Company. At first they only served single origin roasts from around the world but soon began producing other varieties such as Guatemalan sienna and Ethiopian birch tea. As interest grew in this type of coffee, they also started producing pre-packaged blends which sold under the name Koffiehuis Coffeeshop Blends (KCB). These mixes were designed to appeal to a wider audience than just those who enjoyed specific roasts or brands. Soon after, other companies followed suit with their own versions of gourmet coffee - these include Starbucks Corporation (now Starbucks International), D'Angelo's Italian Restaurant & Bar (now D'Angelo's Pizza), Benares Chinese Buffet Cafe (now Benares Chinese Bistro), Lion King Café & Bakery (now Lion King Tavern), Obika Japanese BBQRestaurant & Brewery (now Obika Japan Grill) - each offering its own unique blend Profile Blend which appealed to a specific segment of society or individual taste palate

Woodridge was first settled by American Revolutionary War veterans in 1781. The community was named for General George Washington, who had fought at the Battle of Saratoga. In 1831, the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad arrived in the town, which then grew rapidly with new businesses established such as a flour mill and a lumberyard. By 1907, Woodridge had 653 residents and was home to two churches and a school. However, during World War I, the town lost almost all its residents due to military service. In the 1920s and 1930s, Woodridge grew rapidly again with construction of roads and businesses including a grocery store, bakery, post office, hotel and movie theater. In 1960, when Illinois became an open-air state, Woodridge experienced its heyday as it hosted a number of state fairs and other events. However, by 1990 it had declined significantly due to economic changes in the area. Today it retains some of its historical significance as a small community located near Carbondale that is known for its unique architecture orchards
In 1811, the first white settler in what is now Woodridge Township was James McFarlane. By 1830, there were 14 white residents living in the township. The first school was built in 1834. In 1872, a post office was established in the township and by 1890, it had grown to include a small hamlet on the north side of the village called "Doris", which became an incorporated town in 1903. In 1916, part of Woodridge Township was annexed into Rockford Heights Township.
