Today, there are more than 20 Starbucks locations across Illinois and Wisconsin. Starbucks is one of the oldest coffee businesses in Illinois. In 1885, George Peabody founded a small grocery store near the intersection of South Dearborn and West Adams Streets in Wood Dale. He began selling roasted coffee beans from his shop, which he called The Star Roastery. After Peabody died in 1966, his son continued to operate The Star Roastery until it closed in 2002. In 2006, Starbucks opened its first location outside of Chicago – in Wood Dale. Now located at 525 S Green St., The Star Roastery continues to provide delicious cup of coffee that locals and tourists alike can enjoy.

Wood Dale was founded in 1836 by George Stephenson and his brother Robert Stephenson. The first post office was established in 1837. The town became a village in 1853, and then a city in 1963. The city government is based on a Mayor-Council system with staggered terms; each council has six members who are elected for two years at large with no term limits. City Hall is located on State Street near Cicero Avenue. There are also two fire stations, one on State Street and one on Cicero Avenue. Wood Dale's largest park, Elmwood Park, has an open-air swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds and a concessions stand that sells refrigerators and other types of items to residents during summertime as well as ice cream during wintertime.

Wood Dale is a small town in the far western corner of Illinois, located about 40 miles east of Chicago. The name Wood Dale comes from the area being wooded for farming and mining during the 1800s. The town was founded in 1871 by Myron Wood and his family. The population of Wood Dale was 1,500 when it was incorporated as a village in 1893. In 1924, Wood Dale became an independent city and has since grown to over 20,000 residents. The history of Wood Dale begins with its namesake, Myron Wood. Born in 1848 in Ohio, Myron moved to this area at the turn of the century to farm and mine coal for industry. By 1870, he had built a home near present-day downtown Waterford on land that would be used for farming and later mined coal. In 1871, after purchasing some additional acres around his home, Myron renamed the town “Wood Dale” in honor of himself and his new acquisitions. During World War I (1914-18), Wood Dale served as a training ground for military personnel on maneuvers off of Lake Michigan. After hostilities ended, many veterans returned home to establish businesses in the town before returning to their peacetime lives soon thereafter. Post-war growth continued unabated until 1925 when voters approved passage of an ordinance allowing incorporation into a village form without first seeking voter approval via referendum ballot measure . With rapid growth came increased traffic congestion which along with other factors led to repeal of the ordinance by Village Board members less than one year later . Once againgrowth slowed as attempts were made to address problems such as lack of affordable housing coupled with infrastructure limitations caused by population size rather than economic development potential . However following annexation by Waterford through an act passed by both cities on May 12th 1978 numbers exploded once more due largely to inexpensive land available within walking distance or just minutes away from all populated areas making it easy for people who desired housing developments or commercial space not only within walking distance but also easily accessible from anywhere within those regions
The town of Wood Dale was founded in 1847 by John and Sarah Thomson. The first post office was established in 1848, and the town became a village in 1875. In 1914, the name of the town was changed to Wood Dale, Illinois after its incorporation into the city of Chicago. The city annexed the town in 1961.
