The population peaked at over 10,000 residents during World War II before declining sharply following the war as many residents left for better opportunities elsewhere. However, since then there has been an occasional uptick in population due mainly to Immigration/Ethnic diversity which often brings new lifeblood businesses and entrepreneurs into town who breathe new life into old businesses while also reviving some historic buildings Today, Wheaton features a vibrant mix of cultures that continues to drive innovation within its boundaries – be it through entrepreneurship or cultural events like art walks or music festivals – ensuring that it remains one of Chicagoland's most vibrant communities open for everyone regardless their socio-economic status
