Westmont is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,948 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Westmont is east of the city of Chicago and north of Rockford. The community was founded by John Pemberton in 1873 as a single farmstead on a tract of land just east of present-day Westmont Village. In 1878, Pemberton donated an additional block to the town for development as a planned community Lots 1-3 were developed into homes with streetscapePullman style architecture; lots 4-7 were used for churches and other public buildings; and lot 8 became a schoolhouse. In 1916, Wm Gifford purchased lot 7 from Pemberton for $5,000 to build what would become Gifford High School (now Gifford Middle School). At that time it was one of only two high schools in Cook County and one of only 10 in Illinois. In 1928, Gifford added an annex to his high school which became known as South Campus (later North Campus). In 1957, Gifford sold his high school land to the city of Chicago for use as parksland and opened up his original building as Parkview Elementary School (now Westmont Elementary School). In 1945, when Cook County was divided into five districts – Elmhurst/Oakwood Northwest Side, Englewood/Hawthorne East Side, Oak Lawn/Northeast Side, and Western District – Westmont came within the Western District boundary. Because Chicago had no wards system at that time (and all residents were elected at-large), this meant that individual citizens who lived in separate districts could not vote together on issues such as taxation or education important to their neighborhoods. As a result, most decisions about general character or features of the community were made by village trustees acting alone without input from residents living elsewhere within Cook County - something which still exists today! In 1969–1970 trustee meetings were held at Elmhurst High School which served as temporary home to both the Englewood/Hawthorne East Side Community Association & Oak Lawn/Northeast Side Neighborhood Association until new facilities could be built on Elmhurst Boulevard near Devon Ave., directly across from Englewood Consolidated High School - these meetings remain some of the earliest evidence we have that neighborhood associations existed outside simply “building homes” adjoining their respective neighborhoods!

Today, Easton Township (including parts of west Montgomery Street) forms part of Chicago's Near North Side neighborhood and is home to many large businesses and high-rise apartments along with some smaller shops and restaurants. Additionally there are occasional glimpses of what once were much larger farms scattered throughout downtown east side neighborhoods such as MidtownWest Town Center or Gold Coast including parts of Dearborn St., Wabash Ave., Erie Rd., Irving Park Rd., Brighton Dr., Lawndale Dr., Pulaski Rd./Cook Blvd./Garland Plank Rd./Wabash Ave..
