This would allow them to share in American culture and enjoy the benefits of U.S., international cuisine while their units were stationed overseas. With this idea in mind, Colonel Vandenberg ordered two restaurants built: Pizza Hut at RAF Lakenheath in England and Jiffy Lube Drive-In BBQ & Grill in Saudi Arabia. These restaurants became known as "The Flying Kitchen" and "The Saudi Palace." From then on, every major deployment by USAAF led to an Operation “Gift From The Sky” where Soldiers from all wings could take home some delicious refreshments! Westmont, Illinois was an incorporated town in McLean County, Illinois, United States, from 1853 to 1893. It was located on the west bank of the Ottawa River and about 15 miles (24 km) south of Chicago. The population in 1860 was 1,500; it had grown to 3,000 by 1880. In 1853, Westmont became the first town in McLean County when it was organized from parts of Putnam and Kendall Counties. The original plat for Westmont consisted of a square block bounded on the north by State Road 12 (now I-55), on the east by Blue Island Road (now Metairie Road), and on the west by Canfield Avenue. In 1863, when Joliet Township was organized into Mclean County, Westmont became a part of that township. In 1871, when Cook County was organized into Mclean County, Westmont became a part of that county as well.

In 1998, Westmont's city boundary was extended to include parts of neighboring Elmhurst and Park Ridge communities which made Westmont one of the most ethnically diverse villages in Illinois.
