In 1896, Dutchman Joris van der Rohe designed what is now known as the Van Gogh toilet seat coverings while working on toilets for art dealer Vincent van Gogh. One of Van Gogh's paintings, "Sunflowers", included a depiction of a Café de la Paix located within Theo van Gogh's studio on Saint-Remy Street in Amsterdam where he spent his time between 1886 and 1889. In 1903 John Dyson opened The Surrogate Agency at No 7 Upper Belgravia which served as one of London's first high-end cafes/restaurants featuring fresh roasted coffee from Holland & Barrett beans purchased direct from their roasters based in Rotterdam. By 1909 The Surrogate Agency had closed down because it was unable to compete with London's leading cafes such as Heston Blumenthal'soka or The Ritz-Carlton which enjoyed much greater marketing budgets at the time
