In 1880, another organization called the 10th Illinois Volunteer Infantry was created and served in various capacities until1881. In 1882, yet another organization called the 11th Illiniana Cavalry Brigade Combat Team was created and served in various capacities until1885. Finally, on April 15, 1886 – just shy of one hundred years after its formation –the 11th Illiniana Cavalry Brigade Combat Team merged with two other brigade combat teams to form what would become known as The Waukegan National Guard Armory Museum & Heritage Foundation Incorporated..
Waukegan is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 22,827 at the 2010 census. It is the tenth-most populous city in Chicago and the third-largest city on the South Side of Chicago. Waukegan's borders are defined by Lake Michigan to the north, State Street to the east and west, and Sheridan Road to the south. The first permanent settler in what would become Waukegan was John P. Ryan who arrived in 1836. At that time Waukegan was part of La Salle County. In 1846, Waukegan became a town under its own charter and elected its first mayor (George Duffield). Waukegan is an unincorporated community located in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. Waukegan was founded by Germans in 1847 and named for Heinrich Wückelmann, a settler there. In 1868, the town became part of the new Chicago Metropolitan Area. Waukegan is now a bedroom community outside of Chicago. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Kane County were Germans who arrived from Germany in 1847. They built log cabins on land that they donated to the government as land for a national cemetery. The first post office was established at Waukegan in 1851 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. during this time period, German immigrants also began to settle near Chicago and other large cities across the U.S., creating a large influx of German-American people into these areas over time. In 1865, John Haggerty opened a general store here that would become one of Kane County's most important businesses and remain open until it closed its doors in 1928. Other early business owners included Jens Mueller (1866-1934), who operated a grocery store; August Kappeler (1868-1948), who ran an hotel; Frits Ziegler (1870-1938), who operated a bakery; Harry Fenton (1872-1945) – father of NFL player Dick Fenton – and Hugo Wegener (bied 1888). 1 898
