Warrenville is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,783 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Warrenville post office opened in 1837 and closed in 1935. The village of Warrenville was platted on August 12, 1837 by John Wadleigh and others under the name of "Waltzing Spring." On November 15, 1838, the Village platting convention organized by Daniel Hennepin recommended that the name be changed to "Warrenville" after General James Warren who commanded an army during the Mexican War and had been born in nearby Bloomington. The first store in Warrenville was built on Main Street about 1840 by Elias Fenton and his brother Neil Fenton. The first blacksmith shop was built on First Street about 1850 by Ebenezer Boone. A sawmill was built on Millstream Road about 1865 by Ebenezer Boone's son-in-law Nathan Brownell. In 1872, Jno Cramer founded what would become known as "Cramer's grocery". In 1898 he merged with his local rival grocer Amoskeag & Company to form the present day Osgoode Grocery Corporation which still operates today as one of Chicago's largest grocers with over 100 stores across six states including Illinois,Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Ida Bogan began her grocery business near where she now stands on Orchard Avenue in 1922 when she moved from Racine (then Rockford) following her husband's death from a heart attack while driving to work supplies for their new grocery business; later renamed Ida Bogan Brothers Foods Incorporated/Osgoode Grocery Corporation-. Her son-in-law Steve Sherer became president and CEO followed his mother’s retirement after 33 years service beginning July 1st 2006 when she passed away at age 91 surrounded by family members at her home “The Manor” located off Orchard Avenue just east of Ipaca Road in Schaumburg Township IL 60501. Mrs./Sherer continues as Honorary President until her retirement effective December 31st 2020 upon expiration of term provided for in Plan Of Election filed with Cook County Recorder’s Office dated May 2nd 2021 .On October 5th 2019 Steve Sherer will celebrate his 75th birthday having served since 1978 as President & CEO of Osgoode Grocery Corporation
