In 1836, the first public coffeehouse in Villa Park was opened by Joseph Gage. He served a variety of drinks including coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The first grocery store in Villa Park opened in 1886 and it was called the Grocery Store at Seventeenth Street and Elm Avenue. The original post office for Villa Park was located at Seventeenth Street and Elm Avenue. In 1907, the Village of Villa Park incorporated as a town. TheVillage Post Office remained open until 1954 when it closed for lack of customers.
Villa Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 97,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Villa Park is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America. The city's demographics are made up of people from South Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America as well as Native American and Caucasian Americans. The name "Villa Park" comes from an old French plantation in this area which was called "L'Auberge du Rocher." The first settler to live in what is now Villa Park was John Pugh who arrived in 1834. He built a log cabin on the site which he named "Pugh's Bend." In 1836, another pioneer named George Ladd bought property within present-day Villa Park and renamed it "Ladd’s Prairie." In 1854, James Fenton purchased land east of present-day Loop Road and renamed it "Fenton’s Prairie." That year also saw the first school open in Villa Park when Mr. Fenton allowed his son Harry to teach school for three hours per day out of his home on Maple Street. In 1865 John Dorman settled near where Thorne Road meets present-day Elmhurst Avenue and founded Dorman’s Store on what is now Dorman Drive. By 1870 there were over 20 businesses operating within walking distance of each other along Elmhurst Avenue including five grocery stores (Granada groceries), six druggists (Otto & Sons Pharmacy), four shoe stores (Elliott Bros., Woolen Mills & Shoes Co.), two undertakers (Dorman Funeral Home & Cemetery), two meat markets (Watson & Worth Meat Market and Wagon Wheel Meat Market), two breweries (Haas Brewing Company and First National Brewing Company) as well as several small shops catering to farmers with produce or livestock sales taking place at various locations around town such as Highways 12/14 between Elmhurst Avenue and Cicero Avenue or just off Soldier Field between State Street and North Shore Drive at Dan Ryan Airport Shopping Center). In 1916 Dolores Hargrave donated land along Waterfront Drive between Harlem Boulevard and Cicero Avenue to become what became known as Hargrave Square which still includes parts of today's plaza including a poolhall/laundromat building dating back to that time that serves local residents until today; however much newer construction has taken place nearby on Lake Michigan Blvd adjacent to Navy Pier since then complete with a new shopping mall anchored by Sears inside an existing light rail station

Villa Park was founded in 1871 by the couple, Dr. George and Mrs. Anna Wright Villa. The village became a town in 1908 when it annexed the neighboring community of Arlington Heights. The name Villa Park comes from two of the early settlers, George and Anna Wright Villa. Villa Park is located on a tract of land that had been part of the large village of Arlington Heights until its annexation by Villa Park in 1908. The first settler to arrive in what would become Villa Park was Dr. George Wright who bought 640 acres (250 hectares) east of present day Elmhurst Avenue and laid out a small township called "Villa Park". In 1871, he and his wife Anna moving from Ohio came to live here with their three children; Eliza, Edwin, and Edward which at that time meant they were all farmers as well as doctors. Their farmstead included seven buildings- a barn, a house, a storeroom/workshop/ kitchenette/diner for four people, an orchard with twelve apple trees, two dairy cows, five pigs, four chickens coupes de chasse poules (pheasant hunts), five watermelons (the fruit being dried before it was eaten), six hogsheads (a gallon size measure) of whisky per year each for use in their home rather than selling it back to the Indians they traded goods with near by; one field still stands today on this property line! Dr. Wright died suddenly while making some important medical discoveries in Illinois during the 1870s so his widow took over his business operations which continued until her death ten years later on October 4th 1887 at the age of 78 years old following many years laboring under difficult financial challenges necessitating much overtime! After she passed away both houses were sold to Mr./Mrs.(?) Lottery man Nevin Bros.,( ) who operated them as taverns serving refreshments while laborers built roads and other improvements including turning an abandon lot into what is now First National Bank building! A few years later Mrs.(?) Nevin Bros.' son purchased both properties again & operated them as agricultural stores stocking produce from local farms until 1916 when he leased them out to Joplin merchants Wm.? Hine & John Biddle who ran them until 1921 when they closed due to World War 1!! A new grocery store named "Doris" opened up at 3rd Street & Quincy Avenue after World War I but closed down within 5 years due to high costs associated with wartime rationing! In 1923 Village President Donald Laughlin appointed Charles Weisbrot attorney general(( ))& authorized him to purchase all assets adjoining VILLAGE PARK - including Arlington Heights annexing it - creating THE FIRST CITY OF VILLAGE PARK!!! This event marked a major change not only because City Hall moved FROM RIDGEWOOD IN TOWARD VILLAGE PARK But also becauseVillage Presidents were no longer just individuals appointed by President but held office accountable via legislation!!! villaparkilwaukee@gmail.com
