Villa Park is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The first settler in Villa Park was George W. Fenton who arrived there in 1847. After Fenton's death his son-in-law, James Ladd, took over and developed the land into what is now Villa Park. In 1853, John Cavanaugh built a log cabin on the site where he would live for most of his life. The village was named after Mr. Cavanaugh because he had donated land for it to be created. In 1865 Drury built a school which became Villa Park High School Eventually other schools were built including Vista Elementary School (1929), First Baptist Church (1963), and Township Hall (1985). TheVillagePark amusement park opened in 1907 and closed in 1964 after only 10 years due to lack of attendance or financial difficulties caused by World War II; however, portions of the park remain open to this day as part of Vintage Village which also includes several restaurants and shops dating back to that original park layout
