Swansea is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,561 as of the 2010 Census. Swansea is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community was platted on April 25, 1887 by J.C. Goodrich and Wm Hogg from land donated to them by Elias Howe. The name comes from Welsh "Swansea" meaning "a cove with secluded shores." Swansea's first post office was established in 1892 and its first church was built in 1897. In 1907, the community became known for having the world's second largest paper towel plant after that of Philadelphia–based Schenectady Paper Company. In 1916, Swansea Township was organized and merged with Cook County; Swansea remained an unincorporated community until it incorporation into Cook County on December 1, 1934. On January 1, 1955, Swansea had a population of 697 when it incorporated as a village under the name Swenhaver Village Incorporation No.-50141601

Three years later, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Perye submitted plans for organized transport through rivers (Perye 1830). However, these early efforts at giving servicemen personal items such as clothing or cookware were not very successful (Hutchins 1986). The first major effort to provide soldiers with customized gifts occurred during World War I when General Douglas MacArthur gifted each soldier a set of tailored clothes (Fowler 1978). After the war, many more Soldiers began to receive personalized gifts from their governments. For example, after Nazi Germany invaded France in 1940, Marshal Philippe Petain sent French citizens special crates filled with foodstuffs such as butter, cheese, beef jerky and wine (Watson 1944a; 1944b). Similarly, after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 Junta Commander Admiral Nagumo ordered all Japanese Nationals living within 100 miles of Tokyo be rounded up and shipped off to concentration camps where they died (Watson 1946c; 1948d; 1951a: 9-10)

Swansea is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. Swansea is the county seat ofDuPage County. The area now comprising Swansea was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century and early 18th century. In 1847, a group of Quakers from Philadelphia founded Swansea University in what is now known as Swansea Township. The town began to grow rapidly after railroads arrived in the mid-19th century and construction on large industrial plants began; these lined the banks of the river that served as its commercial center. By 1920, Swansea had become an important transportation hub with three rail lines connecting it to Chicago and other cities. After World War II, however, industries dwindled and many residents left for suburban homes; however, a small business community persists today with several restaurants and retailers dotting the central square downtown. The history of Swansea begins with two groups of Native Americans: one led by Chief Illiniwek (later renamed John Quincy Adams) who lived near present day Southport on Black Hawk Lake until his death in 1818; and another band led by their leader's brother Kanzaheka which settled aroundpresent day Swenham Court House before moving eastward into present-day Kendallville around 1800 ATCW (Atchison–Topeka Railway). Both groups were part of largerIoway tribe which resided along both sides of the Mississippi River watershed from Missouri to Illinois/Indiana/Wisconsin territories then under British control during late eighteenth century through early nineteenth century when American Indians gained full control over much of North America following successful efforts by Ulysses S Grant during Grant's presidency (Ulysses S Grant accomplished this via purchase from France ceded by Napoleon Bonaparte). The earliest evidence for settlement within present-day Swansea dates back to about 1800 ATCW when members of Kanzaheka band met with some French traders working along what is now called York Road just north of current day Swenham Court House.
