Summit is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Summit was John Higginbotham who arrived in 1816. He built a log cabin on the north side of town and named it Higginbotham's Landing after his father-in-law, James Higginbotham. The town site was surveyed by George Fenton in 1825 and he named it for General Samuel Lockyer who had presided over the ill-fated expedition against Mexico City two years earlier. In 1827, David Lowry founded a gristmill which became one of Summit's most important businesses. In 1830, when James Wigglesworth purchased the mill from Lowry, he renamed it Wigglesworth Bros. Mill after his brother-in-law Jonathan Wigglesworth (1800–1868). In 1834 Milton Sitton bought the mill from Wigglesworth Bros., renaming it Sitton Bros.' Mill and continuing to operate it as such until 1862 when he sold it to Ebenezer Phelps Jr.. Phelps operated the mill until 1886 when he donated it to Summit Community Schools District #1 which continues to operate it today as part of Horizon High School

Summit is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,341 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Kane County by population and second-largest city in Illinois after Chicago. Summit is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Bethlehem–McHenry metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Summit was George Sells on October 15, 1812. In 1814, Samuel Morse established a post office there with mail service from Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1835, Charles Leland founded Wabash Railroad southward from Park Ridge to reach Nauvoo Valley and feed the mills of Terre Haute and Kankakee River valleys. By 1840, Summit had a school and six shops. The townspeople petitioned for statehood in 1846; when it was received they named their new city after Mount Rushmore National Monument (then called Mount Rushmore National Lakeshore). In 1847-1848, John Fitch opened an evangelical mission church at what is now downtown Summit; he served as its pastor until his death years later. That same year saw the founding of two other churches – First Presbyterian Church (now known as Mount Carmel Baptist Church) near North Sheffield Avenue and Stoneybrook Methodist Episcopal Zion Church on Milwaukee Street – followed by three others that year: Second Presbyterian Church (now known as Bellevue United Methodist Episcopal Zion Church), Third Presbyterian Church (Now known as Highland Park United Methodist Episcopal Zion Church), and Fourth PresbyterianChurch (Now know as Crystal Lake Lutheran Congregation). During the American Civil War many businesses were closed or moved to Other Cities due to lack of supplies or money but most notably Armour & Co., which built Armour's store complex on State Street just east of I-94 north of present day Crystal Lake Boulevard in 1865 became one of America's leading manufacturers including making artillery shells for Union forces during the war while continuing operations afterwards until its bankruptcy in 1902 producing watches also during this time period along with other products at this location today still extant inside those walls complete with all original equipment still attached plus some extra pieces not seen anymore like an engine house that once stood next to it before being torn down 50 years ago! In 1896 two brothers named Alfred Pritzker bought a controlling interest in Armour & Co.; Alfred Pritzker served as CEO until his death in 1978 while his brother Emanuel succeeded him and ran the company until 1984 when it merged into Bethlehem Steel Corporation becoming one of America's largest steelmakers with production sites around the world including major plants outside Detroit Michigan produced things like aluminum cans etc.) One more thing to note about this particular spot where we are standing today since 1890 within easy walking distance or drive if you have time - back then it was just called Armour Place today’s building itself was actually built over something earlier called “The Battery” which may have been related to early Iron Age pottery found near present day Maplewood Avenue/Southfield Road which suggests contact between these cultures even before any actual settlement had taken place! When Emanuel Pritzker died suddenly he bequeathed $350 million ($2 billion dollars adjusted for inflation) towards education reform across all levels ensuring no child ever goes hungry or without access to quality education opportunities regardless socioeconomically speaking through Northwestern University up until 2002 when full privatization occurred resulting in plummeting enrollments throughout much of Northwestern’s college campuses leaving many students unable or unwilling to attend regardless
