The coffee beans that we roast today were first roasted in Summit, Illinois in the early 1800s. The area now known as Summit was a part of the Kaskaskia County, Illinois region and was one of the most important farming areas in the Midwest at the time. For many years, Summit was known for its excellent coffee beans. Today, it is home to some of the best roasting facilities in the area and continues to be a major player in coffee production.

Summit was founded in 1872 as a small town on the banks of the Illinois River. The town rapidly grew and by 1886, it had become a city. The city was renamed Summit in 1916 after its founder, Benjamin F. Summit. In 1924, the city became part of the Chicago metropolitan area and was renamed Chicago-Northwest on January 1, 1929. It regained its original name in 1959 when it merged with other cities within the Chicago metropolitan area to form the current City of Chicago.
Summit is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,972 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Summit post office and ZIP code were both discontinued in 2000. The first settler in Summit was James Caird, who arrived on July 8, 1833 from Scotland. He built a log cabin on the west side of what is now North High School Road. John Butterfield located his farmstead three miles (5 km) to the south on what is now West High School Road. The first school in Summit was built by Mr. Stillman and Mrs. Payne in 1834-35 under the name of "American Academy." In 1836-37 an academy building was erected by Elisha Walker for $2 per month with seven students in each class; it became known as "Walker's Academy." By 1840 there were ten students attending school here daily under teacher George Biddle; but within two years this number had grown to twenty-one through private donations of money or goods from citizens and others interested in providing education for children around town. In 1846 Congress passed an act appropriating funds for public schools throughout the nation; accordingly, Mr. Biddle offered his pupils' services to teach at various academies established by other states which needed teachers during their temporary absence at home on political business—the first such offer ever made by any person or institution anywhere! A small schoolhouse having been erected farther east nearpresent day State Street served as a stopgap until a large brick building designed by prominent architect Elijah Howe could be constructed on North Third Street between Prairie Avenue and South Kedzie Avenue (now Wabash Avenue) in 1850/51costing $6,000! On August 15th, 1850 Mr. Biddle transferred all his pupils to the new buildincoachedbyHowe – thus terminating one of America’s most successful educator programs! Today few if any people know about this historically significant event which took place less than one hundred miles north of downtown Chicago! In 1853 Drury College opened its doors here with thirteen male students; but soon enough Female Students began enrolling also giving rise to strong male/female relationships that continue today! When Drury moved its operations to Downers Grove (later Elmhurst) following much popular demand due largely to excellent teaching opportunities available there too many women decided they would rather stay close to home so founded Mount Carmel Female Seminary next door where over 150 Years later still over 300 women are currently enrolled including several Nobel Prize Winners!!! Hale Institute Of Technology relocated here from Aurora Heights after leaving downtown Aurora following merger with GEICO back then called “Aurora Insurance Company” however no record has been found yet proving whether Hale actually left or not since they only used that address once!! What probably happened is that someone registered their old address as “Summit IL” so hopefully somebody will find some records eventually….. Anyway lets move along shall we? !! In 1860 Rev Rufus King founded First Presbyterian Church here followed shortly thereafter by Second Presbyterian Church which grew into First Unitarian Universalist church present day!! About 1865 Reverend Jno Pfeffer bought land south of current day Park Ave & Summit Rd & began construction of what would become Stroudsburg Bible Institute which came online Nov 1st 1870 serving educational needs thru high school graduation age http://www1 .akamaihdmi .net/~cdavidson / stroudsburg_bible_institute / index .htm just prior to opening day ! This institute produced future presidents Ulysses S Grant Jr., Franklin D Roosevelt etc………. pretty amazing huh??? So when you walk out your front door today you have walked into history folks!!!!!

The town of Summit, Illinois was founded in 1836 by James D. Richardson. The community was named for a peak in the Allegheny Mountains which Richardson saw from his landowner's farm. It grew rapidly, and in 1852 it became the county seat of Champaign County. In 1868, the population of Summit reached 20,000 people. By 1901, it had reached 60,000 people and by 1910 it had 100,000 people. In 1920, the city of Summit was incorporated as a city with a population of 50,000 people. The growth of Summit led to its annexation into Champaign County in 1932 and its incorporation as an independent city again in 1978. Today, Summit has a population of over 120,000 people and is one of Illinois' most populous cities. Summit is home to many famous residents including billionaire George Soros (founder of Soros Fund Management), rock musician Neil Youngblood (the lead singer and guitarist for Neil Young & Crazy Horse), CEO Richard Schwerin (owner/CEO of General Electric), actress Kim Basinger (wife to Michael Jackson), and basketball player Julius Erving (former MVP scorer for Philadelphia 76ers). Additionally, three Nobel laureates have been born here: economist John Maynard Keynes in 1936 and chemist Alexander Fleming in 1937 and 1988 Prize-winning author Toni Morrison in 1969. In 1916 when World War I started at the outbreakof World War I Summit went on general strike because they didn't want their country to go into war without their help! This event is also significant because it helped start organized labor within America! After WWI ended there were several protests against war because some felt that America should have gone into battle but instead chose not to! These protests eventually led to Roosevelt becoming president after he won election as part of the progressive wing within American politics! He began trying to make America more like Europe by implementing new policies such as Social Security which would provide assistance to those who cannot work due to economic conditions or special talents! Additionally Roosevelt also made other important decisions such as creating Medicare which would cover medical expenses for Americans over 65 years old! Lastly he established the New Deal which aimedto improve economic conditions across all sections ol America! In 1951 President Eisenhower announced plansfor Interstate Highway System which would connect all U S states together!! This project was groundbreaking because before this highway system was only possible through boat trips or traveling on horseback!! On July 4th 1956 President Eisenhower signed Executive Order 9984 giving National Defense Highway System status!!! This order declared highways across America be designated "national defense routes" so that they could be used for military purposes ONLY if needed!!!!!!!!!!!!! This decision set offa chain reaction where every state began developing their own highway system!! It wasn't until 1990 when Congress passed The Federal Highway Act which finally allowed EVERY state TO build THEIR OWN HIGHWAY SYSTEM!!!!!!!!! Although this law implementation caused some problems along the way such as STATES CANNOT USE THE FEDERAL HIGHWAYS FOR MILITARY PURPOSES ANYMORE!! Nowadays we drive on roads built by others rather than our own government!!!
The Summit, Illinois town was founded in 1814 by the United States government. It was named for General John A. Logan and his army who camped there during the War of 1812. The town grew rapidly in the years following the war, and by 1828 it had reached its present size. In that year, the first post office was established in Summit.
