The National Guard in Streator, Illinois has a rich history dating back to the Revolutionary War. One of the first units to be organized was Company A, 1st Regiment of Foot, which was formed on December 4, 1775. The unit served in North America until disbanded on September 16, 1800. The first National Guard unit in Streator was Company K of the 3rd Regiment of Foot (British). The unit arrived in 1815 and served until it was disbanded on May 9, 1816. The regiment's colors were granted to Company H of the 2nd Regiment of Foot (Irish) on March 5, 1818. Company P of the 3rd Regiment (British) also served in Streator during the Revolutionary War. On November 7, 1779, they were ordered to disperse and march to Springfield for duty there against General Washington's forces under General John Forbes. After arriving there they joined with other units and assisted Continental Army troops fighting against British forces at Saratoga. On July 17, 1780 they were ordered eastward along with other units when war ended and returned home after Siege Of Yorktown had been fought. On October 28th 1861 Company G from Streator Volunteers enlisted into Confederate States Army during the American Civil War as part of Colonel Abraham Lincoln's Union army seeking emancipation for black soldiers serving within Confederate military forces throughout much of 1861-1865 including at Gettysburg where over 6500 men died as a result of battle attrition or disease contracted from combat operations associated with Confederate armies including malaria,. dysentery etc.. In 1865 company G surrendered at Appomattox Court House following their surrender agreement which provides for death by hanging should any soldier not agree to parole or leave Confederate service alive after honorable discharge or capture by Union Forces.. Following its surrender company G remained prisoners through 1865 and all eventually released except one man who died while incarcerated due to fever while still held as a prisoner-of-war

Streator, Illinois is a small city in the southwestern corner of Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European to visit what is now Streator was Jesuit Father Jacques Marquette in 1808. He named it after his friend and mentor, Saint Thomas More (1449-1535), who had been martyred at Mansfield outside London. The town site was surveyed by Captain John Prentice in 1811 and platting as far north as State Street was done by him on March 26 of that year; but it did not take hold until after he had moved here from Quincy on December 12 of the same year with about fifty men under his command for the purpose of exploring new land lying northwestward within Michigan Territory. In 1816, David Rice founded Des Plaines Manufacturing Company which operated a cotton gin and all other mills in what are today Old Town and North Side Streets east of Lake Shore Drive. From this company came many early settlers including Isaac Sears, one of the original incorporators of Streator Township in 1830; Increase Mather (1785-1846), father-in-law to Harvard Professor Amos Eaton (1801-1868); Charles Aiken (1813-92) an American congressman from Maine who served two terms as Ulysses S Grant’s Vice President; Asa Gray (1796-1872) who became famous as editor and publisher of Harper’s Ferry Ferry Bestiary; John Fenton (1800-64) an Englishman who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1840 against incumbent Joshua Trumbull; Augustus Thornton(1798-) a lawyer, politician and surveyor based originally at Quincy also settled hereabouts before becoming superintendent oi public works for Cook County in 1841 where he remained until his death four years later; James Knoop Sr.(c 1769-[after] 1865) one half brother of James Knoop Jr.(1796-[before]), cofounder with Jeremiah Knoop Sr.(c 1759-[before]) oi First National Bank - precursor to Bank One - which has its current building on North Side Street between Racine Avenue and Western Avenue since its founding in 1907 In 1850 Rev. Elias Howe organized First Congregational Church serving everyone living within five miles or so radius near historic downtown Streator By 1870 there were over one hundred such churches affiliated with First Congregational Society In 1886 when Missouri passed a law forbidding African Americans from owning land north thereof they formed their own black church called Zion Methodist Episcopal Church located northwest corner High Street/South Park Avenue just past present day Oak Lawn Recreation Area
Streator, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of Streator County. The population was 34,898 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Cook County, after Chicago and Cookstown. It is also one of two cities in Cook County with a population over 50,000; the other is Rochelle Park/northwest suburban Chicago. The first settler in what is now Streator was John Purdy in 1827. In 1869, James Fenton purchased land northeast of town from Nicholas Biddle for $1,500. Fenton developed his farm into a thriving community that grew steadily until World War II when it lost its importance due to post-war growth in neighboring towns and villages around it. In 1951, Streator became home to America's first federally funded agricultural experiment station known as "Greenfield". The Experiment Station operated from 1951 to 1959 and contributed significantly to advancements in food production including research into corn gluten malt (CGM), soybean oilseed cake production, field peas technology and more importantly rootworm control on corn crops worldwide which led to increased yields across many crops throughout the years followed. In 1957, Mayor Emanuel announced plans for downtown redevelopment which would see the construction of a new firefighting headquarters annexe as well as an interstate highway exit on State Street just east of town center - this so called "Super Town" project was eventually completed by 1964 but has since been largely forgotten due to other projects undertaken within town limits during that time frame such as new housing developments or retail development taking precedence over older infrastructure within town limits which has resulted in some street namesakes becoming outdated or abandoned over time such as State Street Gateway or South Main Street North Alternate (now Union Pacific Railroad tracks).
