Streator, Illinois is a town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. The community is located in the northwestern corner of the county. It lies within the Northwest Chicago Metropolitan Area. The first settler in Streator was James Cushing who arrived on July 9, 1814. He and his family built a cabin on a hill overlooking the current site of town. They named their settlement "Cushing," but it quickly became known as "Streator." In 1834, John Fenton moved to Streator from Muskegon Heights and began farming land that he later donated to the school district. By 1840, there were ten families living in town. In 1851, Rev. John Gentry came to Streator and organized an Independent Methodist Church that remains active today. In 1870, post office operations began and mail was sent to Canton and Detroit through Presque Isle River Valley Railroad (now part of I-90). That same year saw the first purchase of property by the present day city of Streator for $2,500 which included 83 acres (30 ha) of wooded land east of Main Street and west of Oak Creek Road currently occupied by Parkland Shopping Center

Streator, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 5,611 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1852 by John Streator and his family. The village of Streator merged with the Township of Aurora on February 15, 1907. On November 3rd, 1907, the Village of Streator merged into the Township of Aurora. The township has since been renamed to McIntyre Township after its first settler, James D. McIntyre. The first post office in Streator was established on December 12th, 1852 by John Fenton and Jno Wicks as part of a larger postal system that included Aurora and other townships in central Illinois at that time. In 1857, McKnight & Company opened a store here which soon became the nucleus around which development took place in this small community until it ceased operations in 1916 when electricity became available to all villages within Mclean County. Aurora Elementary School is one of only two schools still open from when it opened for students in 1908 as part of a greatly expanded school district that included many rural areas outside Chicago metropolitan area then being served by schools operated by farmers-teachers associations with their own acreages leased or mortgaged back to these organizations for instruction purposes only; (the other school having closed due to lack of pupils). This large expansion was accomplished largely through private donations from individuals and businesses who saw great potential for education not just among their children but also among surrounding citizens who were unserved or undereducated because they either lived too far away or could not afford tuition costs associated with public schools while living relatively close to big cities like Chicago where such expenses could be adequately paid through employment opportunities) In 1915 when electric lights became available throughout Mclean County village status was re-established thereby allowing for economic development including new housing developments which brought increased traffic demand onto already congested streets leading up to private residences along Maryland Avenue especially during busy commercial periods; thus stimulating further business venturesBanks were built along Maryland Avenue becoming early examples followed later by grocery stores drugstores hardware stores department stores etc., some remaining until closure such as Anderson's Hardware Store & Loan company located on present day Elm Street near High School now occupied by White Lion Bakery before it went bankrupt several years ago; resulting primarily from competition from newer local businesses started specifically catering to residents during those days without any street parking available - no more than six cars allowed inside building(s)
