Streamwood's history dates back to 1847 when it was founded as a post office by John Stephenson and his brother James Stephenson. The towns name comes from two forks in the river that crossed near its location today: "TheStream" and "Woods". In 1892, A.H. Caldwell opened what is now known as Caldwell's Coffee House which became one of the most popular coffeehouses in town. In 1924, local farmer Julius Weiskell started to sell ground coffee from his farm out front on Main Street in Streamwood. In 1951, Bob Larson opened Larson's Coffee Company which remains one of the oldest artisan coffeehouses in America today with over 36 years operations! The first coffeehouses in Streamwood were founded by Italians and German Americans, who sold their coffee direct to local customers.early 20th century Italian immigrants continued to arrive in large numbers in the early 20th century, and they started production of their own coffee beans. These beans were sold under the name "Nestle" Coffee. In 1912, Nestle merged with a Swedish company, Kofola Coffee, to form what is now ABN Amro Corporation. This merger allowed for greater control over the coffee market and helped give rise to what is now known as "coffeeparking." In the 1940s and 50s, American soldiers stationed in Streamwood became involved in the coffee industry. They began buying high-quality beans from various roasters and selling them back home as part of their troops' rationing program. By the late 1960s,Streamwood had become one of America's leading espresso towns. Around this time, Starbucks began opening its first stores throughout town. In 1994, Starbucks announced plans to move its headquarters from Seattle to downtown Chicago – which would have significant implications for streamwood's caffeine industry! Streamwood, Ill. is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,924 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is the second most populous municipality in Kane County after Park Ridge. The name "Streamwood" comes from a stream that flows through the town. The first settler in what is now Streamwood was James Wright who built a cabin on the banks of the stream in 1837. The first store opened in 1851 and it was called "The Wright Store." In 1856, George Funk bought land adjoining that of James Wright and renamed it "Funk's Addition." By 1870, there were four stores and seventeen homes in Streamwood with a total population of 1,200 people. In 1875-76, John Aiken organized a group to purchase 10 acres (4 ha) east of his farm for $1eared with intent to build a town site. They named their new settlement 'Aiken's Town'. When they got around to planting crops on their new land two years later (1877), they realized that they had made a mistake - their soil was too sandy for farming and instead they built housing for themselves on high ground overlooking the creek where they later founded an agricultural college (now Northwestern University). In 1880-81 when voters approved annexation into Park Ridge by neighboring Aurora Township allowing only 3 white residents per township vote as against 11 black residents voting YES due to Jim Crow segregation laws then existing in Illinois at that time; Streamwood became one of many towns annexed into Park Ridge without popular vote or consent from its citizens! While Aurora Township continued to exist until 1957 as part of Cook County; Streamwood passed out of Kane County government jurisdiction completely becoming yet another incorporated community within Chicago limits! five decades after its incorporation into Cook County...still governing itself through elected officials appointed by Mayor Daley! What???TodayStreamwood has over 7500 residents including 3000 kids playing tennis or basketball each day thanks to Proctor Farms Dairy which has been here since 1916!!!
