A coffee story begins with the first coffee beans grown in Steger, Illinois. The rich earth and fertile soils of Steger helped to produce some of the earliest coffee beans in the world. In 1875, a Dutchman named Hendrik Jan van der Linde started a small shop in the town selling coffee. It is said that he roasted five hundred pounds of Coffee per day! Over time, other local farmers started to grow their own coffee and JV van der Linde became known as the "Father of Steger Coffee." He continued to sell his coffee until his death in 1923. For over eighty years, JV's legacy has been celebrated by those who love good cup of Joe!
Steger is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Steger was founded in 1868 by Theodor Steger and his wife Anna (née Kapp). At that time it was a small farming community with a population of around 100 people. In 1916, Theodor Steger bought the rights to build the world's first self-propelled sawmill in Steger and began producing lumber there. The mill closed in 1957 but left an important legacy on Steger; it became home to the world's first self-powered woodchuck sawmill which continued operation until 1978. The town has undergone several transformations over its history; during prohibition it functioned as an illegal speakeasy while post- prohibition it became an agricultural center characterized by large corn cribs and dairy farms surrounding the central square. Today, STEGER offers visitors a wealth of cultural experiences including art galleries, pubs and restaurants located within walking distance of each other as well as activities such as golfing, hiking and fishing opportunities available from numerous local businesses along Route 362 throughout the year.

Steger is a small town in Will County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,694 at the 2010 census. Steger is located just east of Carbondale and north of DeKalb. It has a post office with ZIP code 61822. The first settlers in Steger were William and Susannah Barton who arrived in 1836 from Kentucky. The Barton family operated a sawmill until 1840 when they moved to this location and built a grist mill which still stands today. In 1881, John Ladd purchased the mill from the Barton family and it continued operation until 1978 when it was sold to Edwin Fenton who operated it as an agricultural factory until his death in 1984. In 1988, the mill was further renovated and became known as the "Fenton Mill". In 1905, Joice Hargrave came to Steger from Decatur, Illinois where she had worked as a maid for several families on the west side of Chicago. She married John Hargrave Sr., one of the original settlers here, and started her own farm with six cows and twelve horses near what is now Main Street (north of US Highway 14). They raised chickens, pigs, wheat (eventually becoming extinct due to disease), cornmeal, flour etc., until 1932 when they left for good because World War II interfered with farming operations; however their descendants continue to live hereabouts through various permutations including grapevines/grapefruits production etcetera. The Post Office began serving Steger on December 12th 1882 by mail from Streator City Hall- three miles away which at that time was quite an accomplishment given that there were only two postmasters in Will County at that time! On November 1st 1890 Mrs Jane Kavanagh arrived from New York City by way of Rockford after spending five years traveling around America working in various capacities such as domestic servant/maid service engagements throughout Illinois before finally settling down in Steger permanently- something that wasn't possible back then since you needed someone's home address to get mail! Mrs Kavanagh served out her full term until 1893 before moving on to other opportunities within our community although she did leave behind some beautiful engraved silver plaque commemorating her service entitled “Joice Hargrave – Pioneer Mail Carrier” which can be found today inside local history museum adjacent to old post office building dating backto its days as part of local retail business! A new post office called “Steiger” opened its doors on October 25th 1902 under postal inspector J C Flynn after being granted permanent status by General Postmaster Harry Wapsner! At this time there were only six mail carriers active within our community with Mr Flynn being #2 behind only Mr Wapsner himself! During WWI we all knew how difficult things could get since most everything had been rationed so even sending stamps caused problems due to high postage rates! However despite all these challenges thru war & peace steGER always managed To stay Positive Guiding Light For All Who dwell Hereabouts Today (& It Still Does!).
