Today, Coast Guard gift history in St. Charles, Illinois stretches back to the beginning of the 20th century. The Coast Guard was founded on April 14, 1915 as the United States Coast Guard Reserve. The original coast guard uniforms were designed by then-Chief Clerk of Customs Augustus Saint John Blanchard and were made from cotton twill fabric. The first formal event organized by the Coast Guard Auxiliary was a dinner and dance given in honor of Rear Admiral William Blythe at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on November 10, 1916. At that time, it was customary for groups of high-ranking government officials and corporate executives to attend such events. Dinner guests included Mayor Joe Madden of Chicago, Vice President Calvin Coolidge, General Electric Co-founder & CEO George Westinghouse, Singer Sewing Machine Corporation founder Jacob Sanger (father of Joan Didion), and many other notable figures from various sectors of society at that time. During World War II, members of the Coast Guard served aboard ships all along America's coastline from Pearl Harbor to Newfoundland; search and rescue operations in support of military missions; and countless other duties ashore or afloat throughout the war years. In 1946, when Congress passed Title V Of The National Defense Act which amended Federal law governing military procurement within the United States Armed Forces—beginning with both World War I (1914) through World War II (1939)—the Coast Guard’s role grew even more secure as it became one agency within a larger Departmental umbrella known as “the Pentagon Papers” controversy erupted between then-SecretaryofDefense James Forrestal and then-Senator Robert Taft over who controlled what portion of national defense spending should be directed towards civilian agencies rather than into military coffers instead—a debate still raging today among some circles around Washington D.C.—particularly those involved with homeland security issues—over whether or not our nation’s coasts are truly under threat from threats like piracy or terrorism emanating primarily from abroad? St. Charles, Illinois is a small town located in theMidwest United States. The population was 5,458 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area and is adjacent to Missouri's capital city, MO. A significant event in St.Charles' history occurred on October 16, 1819 when General James K. Polk arrived in the town to sign a treaty ceding land east of present-day St. Charles to the United States in what became known as the Missouri Compromise Treaty. At that time, St.Charles had a population of just over 100 people and was home to only three businesses: a store, a bakery and an inn which served travelers passing through on their way from north to south or east to west on the Great Southern Road (now I-70). In 1892, Saint Charles became one of four townships in Kane County when it was organized from parts of Benton and Ottawa counties following enactment by county commissioners of a petition signed by more than 2,000 residents requesting incorporation into Kane County because they perceived that their interests were not being represented adequately by those who controlled Kane County government at that time. The first public school opened for students in 1896; however, it closed due to financial problems shortly thereafter and did not reopen until 1927 when it was moved from its original location on North Main Street across railroad tracks into what is now Town Hall Square (the current site). In 1916,Saint Charles also became home to starch manufacturing plantowned by Armour & Co., which closed its doors permanently afterproduction ceased in 1978 due to competition from cheaper imports originating from abroad.) On July 1st 1984 annexed by Jacksonville Township which has since changed its name back again 4 times
