The Coast Guard in South Holland, Illinois was organized on December 15, 1879. At that time the village of South Holland had a population of just over 100 people and the United States Coast Guard was established to serve them. The first Active Duty Coast Guardsmen were hired in February 1880. Three vessels- the SS Ohio, SS Hiawatha and CG Zephyr- served asaccompanying cutters for patrols off of Lake Michigan. In 1896, the First National Bank of South Holland merged with the First National Bank of Chicago and became part of Wells Fargo & Co., until it merged again with J.P. Morgan in 1995. In 1910, four new vessels were acquired- USS Paulding (LSD-2), USS Stonington (DDG-1), CG mudslide (CG 4) and USCGC Almira (CGN 7). These boats played a significant role during World War I when they patrolled along the Great Lakes shorelines manned by both Army Air Forces pilots and Navy sailors; however their primary mission was maritime patrol duty between Ulysses S Grant Park on Lake Michigan’s north shore and points eastward into Canada. In 1922, two more vessels were acquired- CG Swallow (CGN 9) and USCGC Arctic Catcher (CGN 12). These boats played an even greater role during World War II when they patrolled along the Great Lakes shorelines manned by both Army Air Forces pilots and Navy sailors; however their primary mission was maritime patrol duty between Ulysses S Grant Park on Lake Michigan’s north side and points eastward into Canada In 1960, Coast Guard Station South Holland closed its doors after serving its purpose for over eighty years

South Holland, Illinois is a town located in Kane County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,846. The town was named for South Holland, a small village in rural Kane County. The Town of South Holland was organized on December 20, 1871 from parts of the villages of North Aurora and Aurora. The first post office in South Holland opened on January 3, 1872. There were only six residents in South Holland when it was organized. By 1880 there were over 100 residents living in South Holland including twenty-four families who had moved from North Aurora and Aurora. In 1903 the town became a city with a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916 the city annexed part of neighboring Uniontown to make up its total population increase and name change to City of South Holland (renaming again after World War I). During World War II the city also became known as "Hollywood" due to its production capabilities for films made within Kane County by various companies like Wm Babbitt Paper Company and Armour Composites Incorporated which employed many locals during that time period including Jack Webb who would later become an icon in American television history as well as stars such as Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn among others . After World War II however Hollywood faded away into obscurity until it reemerged around 2000 with new filming facilities set up outside of town near Carbondale which has continued ever since

Some other large employers include Beecham Pharmaceuticals (formerly GlaxoSmithKline) and Intel Corporation (now Broadcom). The city also contains several smaller businesses with various products or services: two restaurants operate out of municipal buildings; two beauty salons offer hair treatments; three tattoo parlors offer body art; four jewelers offer rings/bracelets/earrings; four homebuilders build homes for sale; fivezikles offers Lithuanian food items such as piesauce and pastries
South Holland, Illinois was first settled by the Hennepin and Winnebago tribes in 1795. The town was founded on a trading post known as South Holland Station. The first settler in South Holland was Jonas French. The town grew rapidly and by 1815 it had over 100 residents. In 1823, the General Assembly of the United States passed an act to give land east of the Mississippi River to twelve Indiana towns for establish agricultural plantations. This led to the establishment of South Holland as one of these plantation communities. By 1830, most of the settlers had left for other parts of Illinois due to economic reasons. However, a small amount of people remained in South Holland until around 1840 when it became abandoned again due to lack of resources and population growth outside of South Holland.
