The United States Air Force's Tinker Air Force Base in South Holland, Illinois is home to the world's only Experimental Aircraft Division. This division has been responsible for development of some of America's most advanced weapons and technologies. One of these technologies is the Northrop Grumman E-2D Hawkeye surveillance plane. This plane was first developed at Tinker AFB in 1967 as a part of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The aircraft enjoyed significant success during its deployments throughout the Vietnam War, becoming one of America's most widely used assets. After the war, however, it was decided that the Hawkeye would no longer be used in combat due to its limitations. In 1987, DARPA transferred ownership of the plane to South Holland Township for use by local schools as an aviation research and education tool. Today, the Hawkeye remains stationed at Tinker AFB where it enjoys continued support from both American and international users. In addition to its use by American military forces, other countries have also employed the Hawkeye in various capacities including air traffic control and disaster relief operations.

The United States Air Force gifted a ranch in South Holland, Illinois to the town in 1957. The air force donated land on which the barracks and other military facilities would be built. The town of South Holland dedicated its first annual parade in 1958 to the flying community. In 1959, an aircraft hangar was added to the airport. In 1961, an armory and gym were also erected in the town square. The townsfolk renovated and enlarged many of these structures over time as needed or requested by the USAF. In 1966, a control tower was built next to the Armory in order to support aircraft operations from all over Illinois while also providing communications with Headquarters Air Force Base at Redstone Arsenal Alabama. This structure is still standing today and is used by both USAF units stationed here as well as civilian pilots conducting training flights out of South Holland Airport. In 1971-1972, a new annex was erected next to AFB East for storage of USAF equipment including missiles and planes that had not been delivered yet or were being stored at various bases around America due to their Vietnam War deployment dates. This annex is now known as Hangar 3 because it housed three runways which served different types of military equipment belonging both NATO membersFranceandtheSoviet Unionduring this time period: 1) Runway 18/36 – used for general aviation type traffic; 2) Runway 02/20 – used for heavy bombers; 3) Runway 09/27 – only used for fighter jets during peacetime! As more capabilities became available within USAF unit stationed here such as jet fighters equipped with shoulderfired Maverick Missiles (the F-4 Phantom), larger hangar areas were necessary so these weapons could be properly stored and functioned without interruption or wear & tear over time like older ground based armories might have done! On October 15th 1984South Holland hosted their first international air show when USAAF Boeing 747’s from Panama City International Airport flew into Galesburg Municipal Airport under IFR conditions enroute to Edwards AFB California seeking guidance on an unrelated mission! Some interesting aspects of this event include live fire demonstrations by American Army troops training at nearby Fort Sheridan Barracks while Brazilian Air Force Tupolev Tu-104's made several passes overhead! Sadly, this years edition of South Holland's Annual Parade did not take place due To lack of funds however future parades will likely take place outdoors during warmer weather months!
South Holland, Illinois is a town located in La Porte County, Indiana. The population was 4,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settlers in South Holland were Quakers who arrived there in 1812. The town was named after the Dutchtown of Holland in Michigan. The first post office was established in 1817 and the name changed to South Holland in 1831. In 1851, it became a village and then a town. On July 1, 1907, it merged with nearby Terre Haute to form the current city of Indianapolis. South Holland is home to two large shopping malls - McCormick Place and Centre Point mall - as well as several smaller stores and restaurants. There are also several golf courses located within walking distance of the town center. There are many cultural attractions within minutes' drive of South Holland including: the Freedom Trail (a short drive from downtown), Art Institute of Chicago (just south of downtown), DeKalb County Museum (northwest of downtown), and Balboa Park (southwest of downtown).

AFG played an instrumental role in helping America win World War II and maintain its global strategicpositioning throughout the conflict. Today's USAF is made up largely of veterans from past conflicts who have served in various positions across different branches of service within our nation’s military structure

After World War II, South Holland saw a boom in military activity due to its location on the border of two important strategic areas: Lake Michigan and Indiana.
