Today, Gentry Coffee & Tea Company still operates as a family-owned business and produces some of the finest artisan coffees in the country. Their roastmasters continue to hand-pick only the highest quality beans from local farmers and purchase only fresh produce when possible. Shorewood is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Shorewood was founded in 1881 by George Wirth and his brother-in-law, Amos Kendall. In 1893, it merged with other towns in Cook County to form the village of Shorewood Heights. The name of the town was changed from Shorewood Heights to Shorewood in 1924. The first town meeting was held on November 10th, 1881, when George Wirth and Amos Kendall met to create a new town in what is now Cook County. They decided that they would name their new town after their home state of New York – Shoreside on Long Island (now part of Staten Island). The original plot for the proposed settlement included land that is now Kaneohe Bay Park and portions of Kaneohe Peninsula on Kaua'i (now known as Oʻahu). The first post office opened inshore on December 3rd, 1881; it was renamed Homer on January 1st, 1889 after General James Hurlbut who served as Governor of Illinois during the late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1893, shorewood Heights merged with other towns in Cook County to form the village of Shorewood which then became a city under Mayorascription Frank Bagnato on October 15th 1949 (). On July 1st 1957(), demolished portion including much valuable real estate along Waialae Boulevard between Makaua Avenue & Aliaka Drive were reassigned from City Limits to Township limits effective September 1st 1957 (). This change will leave only about 2 blocks north & south w Makaua Ave., overlooking Waialae Boulevard unincorporated areas annexed by township since 1957 have been annexed into neighboring communities such as Coconut Creek Village (north), Palatine Terrace (east) & Harbor Crossing Estates (southwest). On January 1st 1909(?), Voters approved a second term for Mayor Frank Bagnato who had served 2 terms previously with no interruption until he took office again on May 14th 1913(). He had been mayor since 1907 when he succeeded John McCormick who had preceded him as mayor for one year due to death within months following an illness at age 54 years old while serving 4 terms.. Shorewood was founded in 1839 by Joshua P. Morse and his wife, Eliza. The town was named after the shore of Lake Michigan where they first built a cabin. The Morse family operated a store and post office in Shorewood until 1850 when they sold the property to John C. duggett. In 1865, Diggitt donated land to the city of Chicago for an electric street railway system, which he had also founded. After Diggitt's death in 1868, the city took control of Shorewood and made it part of their new city limits.
