The first National Guard unit in Shiloh was organized on November 1, 1861. The unit was known as the 2nd Illinois Regiment of Militia. The regiment served for three years and honorably discharged on September 9, 1865.
Shiloh is a small city in Assembling Township, Kane County, Illinois. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is the 8th most populous municipality in Kane County and the 3rd most populous in the Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. Shiloh is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is one of two cities in Assembling Township which are both governed by aldermen who are elected to represent their wards on a staggered basis with one term per year. Shiloh was founded as a farmers town on December 12, 1864 by John Purdy and his family following settlement of land acquisition from General John Buel during the American Civil War (1861-1865). After Union victory over Confederate forces at Pea Ridge on April 6, 1865, Shiloha became an industrial center due to production of cotton ginners' machinery and other items used in manufacturing during Reconstruction (1868-1912). Between 1872 and 1907 there were 5 different churches located within 1 block of each other in downtown Shilohl; however, only 2 remain extant today: First United Methodist Church–now managed by Congregationalists and Christ Episcopal Cathedral–and Second Presbyterian Church/First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Parish—now managed by Presbyterians and African Americans united under one roof. The growth of fields around town led to name changes for various intersections: Main Street became "Canal Street" after James Canal opened a canal connecting the Illinois River near where it crossed US Highway 27 east of town with what was then called Canal Bend Creek; Fourth Street became "Purdy Road" after John Purdy's son-in-law James Gillespie bought 4 acres (1 hectare) along that street from Nicholas Pryor about 1870; Elmendorf Avenue became "John Fenton Avenue" after local banker John Fenton donated land for park development in 1892; East Broadway becoming "Houston Boulevard" after Houston Beaumont donated land for similar purpose about 1896; North Broadway becoming "Hilton Boulevard" after hotelier Julius Hilton donated land for similar purpose about 1912. In 1925 Antioch Baptist Church moved into its current building on South Third Street which had been built as an academy school building before that date. In 1927 First Presbyterian church also moved into its present location south of Third Street just north of Park Drive intersection vacated when Park Drive was widened to four lanes but not open to traffic yet because SHILOH streets were still named according to their original course - Main (north), Fourth (west), Houston (south), Elmendorf(east), East Broadway (southwest). The first Baptist church meeting place west side alley between Second avenue and Elmendorf avenue where now home plate stadium stands was held November 9th 1886 when Rev J W Garton officiated followed by services by Rev Wm H Latta conducted October 10th 1890 505 votes cast including 38 men women & children

Over time, the National Guard has been used for various purposes including ceremonial occasions, disaster relief, and peacekeeping. One of the most famous incidents where members of the National Guard were called into action was during World War II when they helped protect Pearl Harbor. In recent years, however, there have been concerns over some members of the National Guard being used too extensively for tasks that are not Military-related or don’t meet U.S. Constitution requirements such as guard duty at major events like national parades or protests. Shiloh is a town in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,035 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The federally chartered Shiloh School District serves Shiloh and adjoining communities of Carbondale and Waukegan. The first settler in what would become Shiloh was George Washington Carver, who arrived in 1837. He founded a farmstead on the east side of the Kankakee River and named it Carver Station after himself and his crops from that year onward. In 1857, two brothers, John A. and James Hickey bought Carver Station from Carver and developed it into a village with a post office, store, blacksmith shop, hotel, schoolhouse (1859), Baptist church (1860), Masonic lodge (1862), dance hall (1863), golf course (1901), agricultural Implement Manufacturing Company (1914) – one of Illinois's largest companies until its merger with Sears & Roebuck in 1966 – as well as several other businesses. In 1865-66 two local farmers organized what became the La Salle County Agricultural Society to promote agriculture and improve infrastructure for farming purposes; these men were Hiram Page Peckham and Myron Cogswell Childs. They donated land to form an agricultural college which opened its doors in 1867 as Peckham Normal School; this institution became known as La Salle University when it merged with American University in 1896. Shiloh was platted by commissioners George Stephenson Smithson on November 15th 1830 under the name "New Iowan" Township No 2 []northwest corner [of] Section 3 north". At present day highway M-6 leads northeast out of town to Carbondale while Old State Road 128 leads southeast into town via Old State Road 127 south; both routes were built during the early 19th century when Shiloh lay within present day LaSalle County boundaries(). By 1860 there were only twelve residents living in Shiloth
Shiloh was a slave town in the United States, located in central Illinois. It was founded in 1809 by African Americans who were brought to the area from nearby cities such as Cairo and Quincy. The town grew rapidly during the antebellum period, and by 1825 it had a population of over 1,000. In 1847 Shiloh passed away under suspension of its free personhood charter due to lack of support from white residents; it reverted back to slave status two years later.
