As part of this program, each Battalion Commander sends an email thanking all those who have donated items for use in their unit’s holiday spirit season. The sending process can be quite tedious; however, it is worth it because every Marine gets to feel like he or she is being appreciated and makes a difference in someone else’s holiday Season!

The Marine Corps deployed a gift to the town of Shiloh, Illinois in memory of Corporal James A. Hickey on July 4th, 1945. The corporal was killed while serving with Company C, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines during the Battle of Okinawa. His command team presented a beautiful set of oak trees as a symbol of appreciation for their service.
Shiloh is a small town located in the state of Illinois. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Westfield, IL, Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Shiloh post office was established in 1837. A school was built in 1839 and later renamed Shiloh Academy. In 1847, a courthouse and jail were erected on what is now US 69/US 61 east of town. The post office moved to its present location in 1865. Shiloh has had several churches throughout its history: First Baptist Church was founded in 1898; Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1907; Antisemitic Congregational Church (later Jewish United Synagogue) was chartered in 1930; and eventually Presbyterianism became dominant among the community's denominations after World War II. In 1977, Shiloh voters approved a plan to build a new high school which would serve as both a local public school and home for the village's two municipal libraries (the current High School serves only as a middle school). The $21 million project finally opened its doors to students on September 12, 2001.
