Shiloh is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,351 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Shiloh is located on the banks of the Mississippi River and has a rich agricultural history dating back to before its incorporation as a town in 1868. According to the 2010 census, Shiloh's total land area is 22 square miles (59 square kilometers). Of this, 17 square miles (46 square kilometers) is land and 5 square miles (14 square kilometers) is water. The remaining 2square miles (8square kilometers)) consists of nine buildings used for local government services: one courthouse and two village halls. The first residents of what would become Shiloh arrived in 1868 when surveyors named it "New Salem." They were farmers who had moved from Indiana after the American Civil War and purchased some 300 acres west of Wabash River which became known as "New Salem." In 1871, they organized as a Township with three trustees who served four-year terms renewable by election; these trustees were chaired by a mayor and included one representative from each township ward. In 1875, they changed their name to "Shiloh" after General Ulysses S. Grant's visit to that community while on his way home from fighting in Mexico City. Grant was so impressed with what he saw there that he offered them an option to keep their name but they chose to change it because it sounded more like English than Spanish (Grant pronounced 'sha-lo-h'). The following year saw another important event when President Ulysses S. Grant made an appearance at New Salem Baptist Church which inspired many people within Shilohl – especially young men – to pursue careers in government service rather than agriculture or manufacturing because there was now an opportunity for someone from up north with experience and education to help guide their community during its early years! That same year also saw the construction of Union Pacific Railroad tracks through Shilohl giving new life both physically and emotionally to this small frontier town! With industry now available nearby thanks in large part to railroad development, farming continued being our mainstay until World War II when oil started becoming available for exploration and production which caused demand for goods produced here skyrocketing! With no major industry present during most of the postwar years except agriculture due largely to price controls instituted during that time period by then president Harry Truman - things began slowly returning back into traditional patterns post-war as oil prices stabilized beginning in 1958! As recently as 2000 – prior thereto even – only 3% of all jobs reported within Cook County were “agricultural job titles” including cashiers/checkers/cashier’s helpers/clerks/secretaries; those percentages have since increased significantly over that time frame reaching over 50%. Furthermore, according such data almost half (48%) all employment title changes reported within Cook County between 2000 & 2010 were positions related either directly or indirectly unto “agriculture” jobs…..thus making Illinois one of few states where such percentage exceeds 50%. Shiloh is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bloomington–Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. Shiloh was founded by General Israel Putnam in 1815 as a Shawnee village on a bluff overlooking the confluence of the White and Black Rivers. The name "Shiloh" means "place of safety." The town's first post office was established in 1829. By 1840, Shiloh had a school, Baptist church, jail, store and three hotels. In 1847-48 Shilohlians built a new courthouse which served as both local and national capital for Illinois during the Mexican American War (1846-1848). In 1870-71 Shilohlians erected two large roundabouts on High Street near present day State Route 14 to trafficize their small town. They also built several other buildings including a Masonic temple and Methodist church which remain today. The townsite became an incorporated village in 1924 when it consolidated with neighboring Bloomington. In 1930-31 residents of nearby Arlington successfully petitioned to rename their community after General Joseph Hooker who had fought at Antietam and Fredericksburg during the American Civil War (1861- 1865). At that time most Americans still thought of Confederate generals as heroes rather than villains like Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis because they had given up their arms rather than fight against our country’s common enemy instead of slavery or Reconstructionism under Ulysses S Grant’s administration.
