During World War II, Schiller Park was headquarters for United States Army Transportation Corps General Walter Bedell Smith's Theater Command which supervised all theater-wide transportation needs including airfields, campsites and recruitment centers across Europe while also providing living quarters for troops and their families on various sites around Chicago including Harmonie Hall (now University Village), Camp Randall (now Rogers Park) and Jefferson Barracks (now McCormick Place). In 1945, portions of Schiller Park were annexed into neighboring Hyde Park which gave rise to what is now Lincolnwood neighborhood adjacent to Humboldt Parkway

This museum continues to be open every Thursday night from 7:00pm until 11:00pm since its founding; it is one of few remaining repositories for original art from nineteenth century America still extant today. After the Chicago fire of 1871, Schiller Park was founded as a park in the heart of the city. The park was named after Friedrich Wilhelm Schiller, who lived and worked in the area at that time. In 1875, a children's playground and ball court were built on what is now Lake Michigan Boulevard. In 1903, a training academy for nurses was established in the park. In 1916, a library and music hall were built on State Street in east-central Schiller Park. During World War II,Schiller Park became home to an airbase used by the USAAF during World War II. On October 14th 1946, when Illinois Governor George Ryan signed legislation creating East Side Neighborhoods (Esnips), portions of schiller park were annexed into those neighborhoods as part of their creation.
