As coffee beans were first planted in Schiller Park, Illinois in the late 1800s, they were Ground Level Coffee. The origin of this type of coffee was unknown, but it is thought that Dutch settlers brought some beans over to America. It wasn't until the early 1900s when a small business by the name of German Brothers started grinding and roasting high-quality coffee beans in a warehouse on Wabash Avenue. Today, German Brothers Coffee continues to provide quality coffee for all those who enjoy its pods and ground format. The company's origins date back to 1882 when George Engelhardt and Hermann Kappelberger founded the Engelhardt & Kappelberger Coffee Company in Vienna, Austria. The two brothers owned and operated a grocery store where they sold roasted coffee from their own blend of Arabica beans. In 1902, they opened a second location in Chicago which continued operations until 1978. In 1916, George Engelhardt died suddenly and his brother Hermann assumed management of the company. Over time, Hermann developed an extensive inventory of different types of beans which allowed him to create unique blends for his customers (some still taste amazing today). In 1938, Manfred Schneider took over as CEO of German Brothers Coffee after his father’s death. During Manfred Schneider’s tenure as CEO, German Brothers Coffee began producing canned formats such as sweetened condensed milk (Coca Cola) and ice cream products like Schwaben Ice Cream Company’s vanilla ice cream cone*. After World War II ended and Germany became post-war Allied territory with new regulations governing food production*,Manfred Schneider decided that Germans should be able to produce quality coffees even while living under Allied rules* Consequently *German Bros.* produced only fair trade certified coffees* until 1992 when their contract with Sumatra Bali mandated them start selling 100% premium grade Arabica coffees** Today there are more than 2 million employees at German Brothers Coffee across six countries* including Chalette – located adjacent to Schiller Park – where our team enjoys fresh brewed java every morning*** On October 3rd 1888 - Japanese troops Occupied Chicago during World War II - Starbucks Japan opened its first shop inside Japanese military base at Fort Sheridan ** This event is significant because starting from then on Japanese soldiers could not purchase any product made outside Japan without prior order from Fort Sheridan Commandant ** As per policy set by commanding general Yoshitomo Ueno US forces liberated Fort Sheridan later that day

In 1847, Charles Schiller founded a coffee plantation in what is now Schiller Park. In 1865, the first store was built in the park and by 1887, there were five stores. In 1916, the first restaurant was opened in the park and by 1948, it had become a popular spot for dinner. In 1957, the first movie theater was built in Schiller Park and by 1984, there were ten theaters. The park also became home to a number of sports teams including the Chicago Blackhawks (1930-present) and Bears (1924-1950).

Schiller Park is a small, rural community located in the northwest part of Cook County, Illinois. It was settled by Germans in the early 1800s and has been home to a variety of families for over 180 years. The population of Schiller Park increased from around 100 people in 1881 to more than 600 people by 1925. The first arrivals to Schiller Park were primarily farmers who used the land for growing crops and raising livestock. Over time, however, other groups began moving into Schiller Park as well - Irish immigrants in the 1920s, Poles and Lithuanians in the 1930s, Japanese Americans during World War II, and African Americans with suburban developments starting up throughout the late 1940s and 1950s. Today, Schiller Park remains a primarily rural community with a few dozen residents living on or near its main streets. However, it does have a number of notable attractions including two parks - Schiller Park Lake and Schiller Park Woodlands - as well as several businesses that support local commerce.
