Gourmet Coffee began as a small café in Schiller Park, Illinois, and quickly became known for its high-quality coffee. Today, Gourmet Coffee is one of the largest coffee companies in the United States, and it continues to serve up delicious coffee every day. The history of Gourmet Coffee can be traced back to 1902 when two businessmen named Julius Streett and Harry Fenton opened a small cafe called The Three Bears in Schiller Park. The business was successful enough that they decided to open their own restaurant, which they called The Gilded Cage. The name was inspired by Emile Zola’s novel “La Dame aux Camélias” (1892). At first, The Gilded Cage offered customers only drip coffee. However, because this was such a popular option at the time, The Gilded Cage soon became well known for its high-quality Arabica beans. In 1916, Julius Streett passed away and his son Harry took over the business. At this point, Harry started serving iced coffee instead of drip coffee because he felt that ice cold coffee was more refreshing than hot coffee on a warm day. In 1935, Harry Fenton passed away and his son John took over the business. John continued to serve iced coffee until 1973 when he sold the business to Geraldine Dayhoffer who renamed it Gourmet Coffee Company Incorporated (GCCI). GCCI continued to serve iced coffee until 1983 when they changed their name to Starbucks Corporation. At this point, Starbucks Corporation ceased operations due to legal reasons related to trademark issues with another company named Café Gratitude which owned the rights to the term “gourmet” on coffees products!

Finally, in 1965, all but one block on North Side were reactivated as Schiller Park Boulevard while remaining blocks on West Side were reactivated as State Street/St Clair Place/Oakland Road/McVeigh Road/Wicker Ave./Higgins Ave./Obama Drive/. Today, much of what once constituted Elmhurst Park has been incorporated into neighboring communities such as Harvey House Gardens to form Community Lakefront Parks District #1 (CLPD1) comprising over 83 acres located within walking or biking distance from each other with a variety Renowned attractions such as The Art Institute Of Chicago Museum Of Science And Technology; Chicagoland Water Polo Association Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse Tournament; United States Naval Academy at Annapolis; University Of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and more...
