The Schaumburg Coast Guard Station was founded on December 2, 1916. The first keeper of the station was Capt. John A. McConnell and he served until 1919 when Capt. Edwin J. Boyle took over the position. In 1921, Capt. James Wetherbee replaced Boyle and he served until 1923 when he left to serve as Commandant of the Coast Guard Academy in New York City and then as Commandant of the Ulysses S Grant Naval Base in Omaha, Nebraska from 1924 to 1927 He also served as Superintendent of Training at the Coast Guard Academy from 1928 to 1931 In 1938, Maj.(jg.) Raymond Fenton became keeper of the station after Maj.(jg.) Everett Dyer resigned because of health reasons In 1941, Lt.(jg.) John Troup became keeper after Lt.(jg.) Everett Dyer resigned again In 1944, Lt.(jg.) Leroy Loughlin became Keeper AfterLt.(jg.) Everett Dyer resigned again In 1946, Sgt.(maj.) Franklin Henson became Keeper After Sgt.(maj.) Schaumburg is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 61,541 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County and home to the McCormick Place Exhibition Center. Schaumburg is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The original village of Schaumburg was founded in 1847 by a group of Protestant missionaries who were sent to reach Native Americans living near what is now Schaumburg Township. The village incorporated as a town on April 24, 1871. The current name comes from a small stream called "Schaumbrunnen" which flowed through the town before it was canalized and renamed for German general Friedrich Wilhelm von Schaumberg (1795-1859). In 1907, the name change again when Schaumburga Steel Works became one of America's leading steelmakers with an output that reached $2 billion USadjusted annual sales in 2007. However, production declined after World War II due to competition from cheaper foreign imports and today only employs about 100 workers out of 1 million residents. The first school in Schaumburg was built on State Street in 1847 by missionary John Fenton and his students under the guidance of Drs Johann Gottlieb König and Heinrich Seidelmann. A second school opened on North Avenue west side on December 3, 1851 using funds raised by local citizens during a state auction held to finance construction of two new churches in Schaumburg Village—St Luke’s Episcopal Church (dedicated May 12th 1861) and First Presbyterian Church (dedicated October 10th 1863)— both built with private donations from individuals or families affected by civil war service in Indiana or Illinois rather than fromIndiana or Illinois itself because those states did not have public schools until 1889! On March 4th 1865 Rev George Waddell gave birth to his only son at St Luke’s Church; within days he had joined Rev Waddell & Coaching Company wagon trains moving across country for mining camps – one journey took him 250 miles! On December 5th 1880 Mrs Mabel Sibley organized her own Women’s Auxiliary Society for Christian Education which met monthly at her house until January 6th 1886 when it moved into its present building located east off Division Street between Elmhurst Road & Maple Leaf Road; soon after meetings were being held every evening at various homes around town with books, music and rhymes providing entertainment while children learned reading, writing and arithmetic skills! Classes began on January 7th 1886 with 28 pupils including 16 girls! From then until 1955 there were no classes Mondays because Mrs Sibley died suddenly February 2nd that year followed by another teacher shortage so classes started Wednesdays instead until 1957 when Mrs Hilda Smith became substitute teacher starting Monday mornings like all other teachers did then until she retired effective November 30th 2009! In 1906 Schaumberg Steel Works became one of America's leading steelmakers with an output that reached $2 billion USadjusted annual sales according to Forbes magazine In 1907 Gertrude Lillie donated land next door to their plant for use as a girls' high school; this led to Grades 9-12 being offered there starting September 1912 followed shortly thereafter by Girls' College prep courses For many years Grades 8-9 were offered but these merged into Northwestern Normal School beginning fall 2005
The United States Coast Guard was established on January 3, 1790 by the Second Continental Congress. The Coast Guard has a rich history that goes back to its early days. In 1915, the Coast Guard purchased its first vessel, the Cutter Hiawatha. The Cutter Hiawatha served as the flagship of the Coast Guard from 1915-1918. In 1922, the Coast Guard acquired its first airboat, the Lockheed Hudson. The Lockheed Hudson served as the primary sea patrol and Search and Rescue boat for the Coast Guard from 1922-1972. From 1972-1998,the Coastal Guardsman aboard USNS Comfort (CGN 9) donated their services as a remote search and rescue unit for both commercial vessels and aircraft operating in offshore waters off America’s eastern seaboard during winter months. On November 1, 1998, USNS Comfort became USS George Washington (CG 52). On October 25 of that year, CG 52 collided with USCGC Horizon while underway in Chesapeake Bay en route towing an oil platform out of commission. Both ships sustained extensive damage however Horizon continued operations until relieved by USS Mount Pleasant on October 30th 1999 after which she decommissioned at Norfolk Naval Shipyard due to budget cuts by then President Bill Clinton.
