Saucie, Illinois is a small town in the far west side of Cook County, Illinois on the Fox River. It was founded about 1854 by settlers from Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. The population was 2,853 at the 2000 census. In 1945, Sauk became one of eleven towns in Cook County to be merged into the city of Chicago. A post office called Saucie was established in 1854, and remained in operation until 1960. The first settler in Saucie was John Ladd who arrived there in 1851 with his family. Ladd made a farm which he named "Sauk Rapids". He and his wife had two children; one died young and the other married and raised four children there. His son George W. Ladd later took over the farm after his father's death in 1865. The next year saw another pioneer arrivals when Augustus Fenton came overland from Missouri with his family and laid out a claim on land that includes present day Saucie Township and parts of present-day Kane County. By 1870, there were ten families living around Saucie including six hundred acres (240 hectares) of land bought from Fenton for $1 per acre ($24 per hectare). In 1875, immigrant Peter Kapp started farming near current day downtown Chicago along what is now State Street and La Salle Avenue between Holland Road (now Irving Park Road)and Western Boulevard where he built a log cabin known as Kapp's Cabin that still stands today as part of Cook CountyRecorders Building located at 5th Street/Ivy League Drive NW corner Lake Shore Drive NE within walking distance of many local businesses including movie theaters etc..He also began plowing roads which are still present throughout most or all areas today although not always used for vehicular traffic like they were back then due to surface erosion caused by rain storms etc..Kapp became an early leader in Chicagoland's electric power industry starting up several small companies before becoming president & CEO of Chicago Edison Company doing so from 1902 until 1926 when he sold their operations to General Electric Co., Inc., making him one of the earliest millionaires ever born within U.S.(Eaton) On December 3rd 1907 citizens voted 0-0 to annex Sauk Township into Chicago pursuant to an act passed by Congress entitled: An Act To Annex Certain Towns Into The City Of Chicago; This Bill Was Signed By President Theodore Roosevelt On December 3rd 1907 The annexation finally happened on January 1st 1908 when Mayor James Hennepin directed City Clerk John Ahern to issue marriage licenses effective January 1st 1908 only to find out that only white men could get married at that time so marriages were performed by Revd Dr Edwin Bogue who officiated at both private homes across town such as Mrs JF Smiths home at 111 South Washington Street which is now Prairie View A&M University residence complex complete with golf course outside while black women could only attend public weddings held inside churches or even more often just outside their homes with no ceremony taking place anywhere near their home before quickly being whisked away afterwards without any notice given ahead of time like they do these days actually constituting an insult considering this occasion wasn't really about them but rather advancing social justice issues especially since black men had long been discriminated against legally throughout much OF THE UNITED STATES during this time period regardless if they resided here or not thereby rendering such ceremonies effectively meaningless providing further evidence secondhand about howynumerous unequal opportunities still persist today nonetheless notwithstanding efforts made by various organizations such as Black Lives MatterChicagoans have recently taken action locally against these institutionalized injusticesorgans such as Power From NowhereUSA
