The Sauk National Guard has been a part of the United States since 1846. The unit was organized as Company A, First Illinois Infantry Regiment on October 3, 1846. Company A was mustered in at Decatur, Illinois on November 29, 1847 and fought in the Mexican-American War from March 26 to April 6,1848. On February 14, 1850 company A was transferred to Rock Island County and on March 15th it left for Nauvoo, Iowa Territory under the command of Colonel John S. Worth. After spending two months there Captain Samuel Jenkins led a party of men overland to Black Hawk Agency on the Missouri River where they were joined by other companies from Illinois and Wisconsin who had also made the crossing. After arriving at Black Hawk Agency they skirmished with Sioux Indians until General James Kiefer arrived with his forces to take control of the situation. On May 10th captain Jenkins and his men reported back to camp that they had killed or captured nineteen Sioux warriors while raiding their villages near Black Hawk Agency. This event is commemorated by a Monument located along I-635 south of Sauk City which reads “In Memory of Captain Samuel Jenkins and His Unit Killed or Captured 19 Sioux Warriors Near Black Hawk Agency”
Sauk, Illinois is an unincorporated community in Stephenson County, Illinois, United States. It is located on the Missouri River about east of the city of Springfield. Sauk was laid out in 1836 by John Safford and his brothers-in-law, Gabriel and Nicholas Fontaine. The first post office at Sauk was established in 1838. Sauk was named after a Saratoga Township settler and landowner, James A. Sauk.
There is no one answer to this question, as the history of the national guard has varied greatly depending on each country. In 1892, Congress passed a law that established the National Guard Bureau so that “the National Guard may be efficiently managed and directed”. This allowed individual state governments to create their own militias within their borders. From hereon out, it became more common for states to amalgamate their militias into a single unit – known as an armory brigade – which would then be organized into battalions (or companies) under brigadier generals until eventually becoming an infantry regiment (or battalion). The first formal gift given to members of the national guard was a rifle by General John Burgoyne during his march from Saratoga campaign in 1777. Since then, many individuals have given Gifts Of Service (GOS) in memory or honor of loved ones who have served in our armed forces. One such example is President George H.W Bush's presentation to Major General James Hutton after Hutton successfully completed Operation Neptune's Spear -Exercise Desert Shield- during Desert Storm back in 1991. In addition to GOS presentations there are also numerous instances where donations have gone beyond simply monetary support; such as when former Vice President Al Gore presented nearly 1 million pounds worth of food stamps to local military families during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 (this event was also documented on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher”). While it is clear that gifts are not only Generational Conservative symbols but can also act as expressions of appreciation for service rendered - something we hope continues into future generations- it can be difficult tryingto come up with ideas for what could possibly fit within someone’s birthday or holiday wish list! Here are five examples how other countries have chosen to celebrate Armed Forces Day/National Guard day: 1) In Spain they observe Armada Day -which is usually celebrated on May 5th- with several events including parades and public hearings honoring fallen servicemen and women; 2) Greece celebrates its National Guardsmen every year at Easter through religious services and open air markets; 3) Belgium celebrates its National Guard annually with a large parade attended by both military personnel and civilians; 4) The United Kingdom hosts an annual Military Parade which includes entire units from all branchesincluding Royal Marinesand Army Cadets; 5) Argentina celebrates its National Guard every year with public demonstrations throughout most major cities

Saucen, Illinois is a small town located in southern Cook County, Illinois on the banks of the Sault Ste. Marie River. The Sauk people were one of the original American Indian tribes and their name means "plain where there is water." The Sauks first settled in what is now Saukville in 1837 and built a Fort Dearborn that was abandoned in 1841. They also founded a village called Prairie du Chien, which they abandoned in 1849. In 1853, they established a new village named Saukville on land bought from the Ottawa tribe. The Sauk people were peaceful until1854 when theyapiired war with other Native American tribes. In 1862, General George Armstrong Custer led an attack against the Sioux Indians at Black Hills near present day Rapid City, South Dakota and lost many soldiers and civilians including five members of the Sauk Village council who were captured and executed by General Custer. This event has been blamed for furthering racial tension between white settlers and Native Americans throughout America. In 1865, General John Fetterman took command of Union forces during the Civil War and ordered his troops to burn down all buildings within three miles of Camp Douglas on the Chicago River because he believed thatNative Americans had caches of arms and ammunition hidden among these structures. This event is known as Fetterman's Raid or Red Summer because it caused great damage to acres surrounding Camp Douglas but did not result in any Indian casualties
Sauk is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. Sauk was founded in 1837 by fur traders from the Northwest Territories. It became part of the Union Territory of Dakota in 1890 and then the state of Iowa in 1907. In 1938, Sauk became a city.
