Round Lake is a small, unincorporated community in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,869 at the 2000 census. It is located on the border of Kane County and Will County. Round Lake lies east of I-355 and west of US Highway 362. According to the 2010 census, Round Lake has a total area of , all land. The first settler in what is now Round Lake was George Wickersham who arrived in 1827 from England. He built a cabin on the present site of Round Lake and named it after his round lake home country which he had seen while travelling through Great Britain. A post office called Roundsville was established in 1839, but changed its name to Round Lake in 1841 because it included all of present day Kane County as well as parts of Will and Wayne Counties (now Michigan). In 1865 a hotel was built by JF Halliday at the current site of Round Lake; it burned down in 1906. Today, there are only two homes left standing onroundLake: One is owned by John & Jeanne Schaffer and the other by their son Randy Schaffer who bought it from them when they retired from farming in 2001 . Today there are no businesses or residences operating withinRoundLakeand most people either commute to neighboring towns or live outside the village limits

Round Lake is located in the eastern portion of Illinois, just east of the state line with Iowa. It was named after Round Valley, which was located in present-day Arizona and Nevada. The first white person to explore the area was a group of men led by John Jacob Astor, who traveled through the area in 1822. The town of Round Lake was established on what is now the east side of Round Lake in 1848. In 1870, a post office was established at Round Lake and it remained operational until 1959. The community experienced significant growth during the 19th century as settlers arrived from all over America to find land that would become roundabout settlements like Round Lake. One such settler, James Sibley, founded what is now Stone City on what is now its south shore in 1872. By 1914, there were over 100 residents living at Round Lake and it had developed into one of the most important communities in southwestern Illinois. However, during World War I roundabout settlements near Chicago were closed off due to wartime shortages of food and fuel; this caused someround lake residents to lose their homes and businesses. The biggest issue facing roundabout settlements during World War I was lack of resources; however, they managed to remain open while other towns around them closed down or changed their allegiance to national sides (e.g., Canada for American troops). After the war ended, many roundabout residents relocated back into their homes but some continued working on farms or fishing boats outside the community until they moved back into town permanently around 1930 when transportation improved enough for them to commute from different parts of town using buses and cars instead of walking or taking public transportation
On Round Lake, Illinois there was a time when the town was called "Fenway". The name is derived from two separate places: Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and Round Lake in Cook County.
