It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is home to two universities: Northwestern University and DePaul University. The name "Roselle" comes from a nearby stream called "Rose Creek". This stream was known for its beautiful wild roses that grew near it. In 1872, wood patriarch James Lenahan bought some of these roses and named his new company after the creek. The company made up a large part of Lenahan's income throughout his life. Lenahan's successors continued to operate the company until it went bankrupt in 1907. However, members of the Lenahan family kept some ownership rights until 1925 when they sold all their shares to J.P. Morgan & Company for $5 million dollars ($109 million today). Morgan used the money to expand Northwestern University which opened its doors in 1891 as one of America's first coeducational universities. The university has since grown into one of America's most prestigious institutions with over 100,000 students and 8 Nobel Prizes awarded thereto-date! Roselle also marks an important milestone in this history as it became home to DePaul University which began operations in 1905 as one of America’s first Catholic universities! Finally, on October 15th, 2018 – less than a year after incorporation - Roselle had its own miracle worker when Sister Joanne Chesnutt became Mother Teresa!

Roselle, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 26,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is the seat of Kane County. Roselle was founded in 1871 by John F. Dickenson as a small farming community on the east side of Chicago. By 1880 it had grown to accommodate a few hundred residents and was making money from its sawmill, land speculation, and other businesses. In 1893 it became the first town in Cook County to adopt a Republican Party platform; Roselle did so because only Republicans could vote in local elections then. The town's growth stalled during World War I and after the war many people left for better opportunities elsewhere. However, with new technology including automobiles and television came increased demand for housing which led to Roselle's rebirth as an affluent suburb of Chicago; today's city center would not have been possible without its predecessor’s busy commercial strip andifier

After being founded, Roselle became a small farming community with only a few businesses. In the late 1800s, Roselle began to grow and develop as a regional center for agriculture and commerce. By 1920, the town had reached its current size with over 100 businesses and 2,000 residents. During World War II, Roselle played an important role in the defense of Illinois because of its location at the mouth of the Mississippi River. The city experienced significant growth following the war, becoming one of Illinois' most populous settlements. Today, Roselle remains an important transportation and commercial hub for northeastern Illinois.
