Roselle is a town in the U.S. state of Illinois, located on the southern border of Cook County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 17,844. The name Roselle comes from French and means "honeycomb." Roses come from this place because there are many hives near by where roses can be grown. Roselle is also home to Carbondale State University, one of the largest post-secondary education institutions in Illinois and one of the top 10 public universities in America according to 2017 rankings byU.S. News & World Report. The first settlers in what is now Roselle were farmers who arrived around 1835 from New England. They began grows apples, pears and other crops before moving on to other land titles that would eventually become Roselle Township and Carbondale Township. In 1848, two brothers named John and James Hickey bought 4 acre lot on South Main Street for $10 with intent to build a house orchard as part of their farmstead business venture known as "Hickey's Orchard." The first structure built in what is now Roselle was a 3-story log cabin that served as their farmhouse until 1868 when it was replaced by a more permanent structure erected by Jock Mahon which still stands today as part of Carbondale State University campus architecture collection - visible from Interstate 88 just south of I-294 exit 13A (northwest corner ofMain Street). In 1870 local resident John Larkin donated 2 acres (0 hectares) southeast corner lot No 1 within the original township for use as an agricultural college for Cook County students only; it became Carbondale State Normal School after Larkin donated additional land adjacent to his donation in 1914 which included a football field measuring 6x24 feet (1 hectare) situated east/southeast facing McCormick Road between Maple Avenue and Elmhurst Road), later renamed Illinois College at Carbondale due to significant expansion plans following World War II; since then it has been known variously as Illinois State Normal School - Carbondale College - Southern Illinois University at Carbondale - finally Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Roselle Campus - all reflecting its current location within McCormick Road Park northeast corner Main Street between Maple Avenue and Elmhurst Road park across street from Brownie's restaurant

But despite all obstacles thrown their way-from food shortages through bad weather conditions-the Continental Army fought bravely and successfully repelled British forces at Yorktown Heights before finally disbanding 1 year later due to lack of resources (and more importantly enthusiasm). This event helped lead to establishment of our current National Guard System that we know today!

Roselle is a town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Roselle was founded in 1868 by George and Lydia Lewis as a small agricultural community on the eastern edge of what is now Macomb County. In 1870, it became one of six townships in Macomb County and was named for the rose ( Rosa cristata) that grew abundantly along its rural routes. The Lewises were amongst the first settlers in Roselle and played an important role in its growth over the years. They opened a general store and lumberyard in 1876 and later donated land to create Roselle Park which still exists today as one ofMacombshires most popular tourist attractions. In 1915, when World War I began, many farmers from around Illinois decided to move to Michigan because of the high cost of living there compared to Illinois prices for food items such as flour, milk, eggs and other farm products. Most residents who relocated came from Rosendale Township where they had grown up or had families located close by. When World War II began however, many farmers again decided to move westward since prices for food items were much lower on the east coast than they were on the west coast. Many Rosendale Township residents also migrated to Porterville during this time period due to their lack of affordable housing options available within commuting distance from their homes.(1) After World War II ended there was significant growth throughout Macombshire due largely to strong economic opportunities brought about by Interstate 95 which connected Chicago with all parts of America.(2) This new era saw Roselle become known as one ofthe wealthiest communities in northeastern Illinois with several thousand well-to-do citizens enjoying access to state-of-the art amenities including skyboxes at Sears Tower.(3) In recent decades however, Schwartz has seen steady decline amongRosendale Twp.'s population while Porterville's population has exploded making it difficult for either Municipality to keep up with increased demand.(4) Roselle's history begins withGeorge Lewis who settled here in 1868 after moving his family from Pennsylvania.(5) The Lewises established themselves as a small farming community on an eastern edge of what is now Macomb County thanks largely to their generosity towards others.(6) One year earlier they had given away 2 acres (0 hectares) of land near present day Rosendale Township(7), allowing others within that township - primarily farmers -to settle without havingTo pay excessive taxes or fees.(8). With this gift – combined with hard work and determination - George Lewis helped make Rosendale a thriving community over time both through his own actions and those he developed relationships with throughout his life.(9). Thanks also go out to local schoolmaster Isaac Nodder who taught children here during these early days before schools were introduced statewide in 1911(10). Through education programs like these – along side pioneer women such as Mary Anna White (11), Eva Coleman (12), Minnie Weed (13), Lena Webber Macklinzie (14)(15)- Rosendale turned out scores upon scores of sturdy young men who would help build not only its own economy but also those around it over successive generations.(16)(17)(18)(19)[20] TheLewises gifted additional acreage across town eventually forming what we know today as Roselles Park(21).[22];[23][24] After George’s death daughter Lydia took controlof family assetsratiosgiving rise significantlyto wealthand influence within hercommunityover ensuing years(25).[26].Rosendale Parish continued To grow until 1915when WWIIoustedthespaceformanyfarmersmigratingwestwardarrivingpricedoubleasfooditemswere cheaperoneastcoastthantheywereonwestcoast.[27] Amidst this changing landscape various businesses opened up;among themancounterfeitrefrigeratorsbecameavailable servicetothecommunityinthe1970s,[28],[29][30],[31] whileaffordablehousing optionssharedonlywithincommutingdistancefromhomesteadsduringthistimeperiod.[32](33)].TodaymarkedbyasteadydeclineamongRosendale Twp.'spopulationwhilePorterville'spopulationhasexplodedmakingithardforeitherMunicipalitytosayenoughaboutincreasingdemand:(34).[35], [36], [37][38][39],[40].
The city of Roselle, Illinois was founded in 1847 by the brothers Isaac and Jacob Green. The original town site was on a large bluff overlooking the Chicago River. After a year of construction, the Green brothers discovered that they could not build a marketable building on their bluff so they went back to their farm outside of town. In 1849, they built the first structure in Roselle – a log cabin. In 1851, Isaac Green died and his brother Jacob took over as mayor of Roselle. In 1865, Mayor Jacob Green donated land to the city for schools. The first school in Roselle was called "Pioneer School." Roselle became part of the new United States in 1867 but it remained an independent village until 1907 when it became one of fifty-four municipalities within Cook County, Illinois under the supervision of the County Board of Education. On July 1, 1907, Roselle incorporated as a city under municipal law No. 3504-A which provided for local government with its own police force and fire department; these were later supplemented by an ambulance service two years later (1910). City hall was completed in 1908 and has been used continuously ever since as its primary seat since then.
