The town was founded in 1855 by Levi Lincoln and his family as a farmstead on the edge of rolling farmland near what is now Pritzker Park. Rolling Meadows became an incorporated village in 1903. The current name comes from "Rising Meadow" which is located just east of the original Lincoln property on acres that were donated to the village by John Fenton. In 1905, Rolling Meadows had a school and two churches; both were destroyed by fire in 1907. A new school was built and named after President Abraham Lincoln in 1913-14; it burned down again in 1951. Rolling Meadows has experienced some significant growth over the years: its population increased from 1,992 at 2000 to 7,851 as of 2010. In recent decades, this growth has been helped along by several industries that have moved into Rollingsdales: manufacturing (including Wawa), professional services (lawyers and accounting firms), retail trade (such as Sears Roebuck & Co.), housing developments (such as Oneida Village Apartments), and agriculture (the largest employer being Illinois corn growers). Ultimately, the town's founders chose "Rolling Meadows" because it sounded similar to an old battlefield where they had fought many times in their lives. The first residents of Rolling Meadows arrived in 1881 and quickly established themselves as farmers and business owners. By 1903, the population of Rolling Meadows had reached seventy-six individuals. Over time, Rollings Newburgh started to fade away as people turned more towards open air living on rolling hillsides than within city limits. However, some residents still wanted their own village located within city limits so they lobbied hard for this change in policy until eventually they received what they desired in 1906 when City Hall decided against allowing any newvillages development within its borders entirely due to safety concerns about crime rates in neighboring townships area at that time ( ). After much lobbying from citizens of Rollings Newburgh who saw no reason not to keep their village alive despite City Hall's decision not to allow it any more, rollers finally built a new Villagehall on Erie Street which served them until 1967 when it burned down due to arson . This event marked the end of an era for Rollings Newburgh as all other nearby municipalities consolidated into Chicago during this time period meaning thatRolling Meadow's unique culture slowly disappeared over time becoming just another part of Chicagoland history
