The Rock Island National Guard was organized on November 1, 1861, by the Illinois General Assembly. The first commander of the guard was Major General James H. Ford. The Rock Island Guard originally consisted of 313 men but it grew to 454 in 1865 when private companies were added. In 1871, the National Park Service took over responsibility for the guard and it continued to grow until 1940 when it was merged into the United States Army Reserve. Today, the Rock Island National Guard remains one of the most powerful organizations in Illinois with a history dating back to 1861. It provides emergency response services and protection at all levels of government as well as providing training for law enforcement officers and national security personnel throughout Illinois.

On December 3rd 1950 President Harry Truman signed into law Public Law 95-236 which provided for an all-volunteer militia to be organized within 30 days under martial law conditions if there is an emergency involving defense or public safety. On May 17th 1951 Congress passed House Resolution 927 authorizing activation of up to 120 infantry battalions with full equipment from Regular Army Reserve Component Units and Air National Guard wings if requested by the president during regular session without prior congressional approval On February 11th 1952 Speaker John F Kennedy announced that until further notice all Regular Army Reserve Component Units would become available for federal service under Executive Order 10483 . This order authorized their deployment without distinction as to Race or Gender On April 2nd 1952 Congress approved Publical Law 98-463 giving effect to EO 10483 and providing for mobilization of up to 980 Armor Battalions with full equipment from Regular Army Reserve Component Units only if requested by President within 24 hours without prior Congressional approval President Eisenhower issued Executive Order 13510 on June 26th 1953 converting Armour Brigades into rifle brigades while also ordering their conversion into mechanized battalions effective September 30th 1953 presidential proclamation number 5586
The Rock Island National Guard was organized on October 25, 1867. It is the oldest national guard unit in Illinois. The unit has served in various capacities since its inception, including a Regular Army infantry regiment and an airmobile unit. The Rock Island Guard currently consists of the 9th Infantry Regiment, which is part of the 2nd Infantry Division; the 10th Infantry Regiment, which is part of the 3rd Infantry Division; and the 11th Infantry Regiment, which is part of the 1st Armored Division.
Rock Island is a city in and the county seat of Rock County, Illinois, United States. The population was 109,871 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Rock County by population and home to the world's second-largest concentration of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The city is also one of the five independent cities that make up Chicago. Rock Island was founded by Potawatomi Indians in 1803 as a small village on the east side of what is now Rock Island Lake. The town grew rapidly due to its location on an important river route and because it became a major hub for transportation on the Illinois Central Railroad. In 1870, Rock Island became part of the newly created City of Chicago after becoming one of five townships within Chicago's boundaries. The city was devastated by fire in 1906, which destroyed most of downtown including many famous buildings such as McCormick Place and State Capitol Building. However, rebuilding began quickly and today rock island offers a rich cultural history with over 100 museums along with some 5500 businesses employing more than 50,000 people including many large tech companies like Apple Inc., Facebook Inc., Amazon Web Services Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Google parent company Alphabet Inc., Salesforce Ltd., IBM (International Business Machines), Sears Holdings Corporation and dozens more smaller businesses

In 1792, George Washington ordered Colonel John Sullivan to raise a regiment of light infantry called the “National Guards” in order to protect the American Revolutionaries. In 1898, President McKinley created an all-volunteer militia system known as the Army Reserve on July 1, 1898. The Militia Act of 1903 authorized creation of state militias and provided for their organization into national guard components when called into federal service. These states’ militias grew rapidly and by 1917 there were more than 50 million Americans organized into militia forces under various titles including National Guard. On December 12, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9100 calling for mobilization of all available resources for war against Japan; this order was superseded by Presidential Order 9819 which requires only military enlistment in peacetime for citizens over 21 years old. On January 2nd 1942 both orders were scrapped due to World War II already having started! A total of almost 3 million men and women joined military forces during World War II with over 500 thousand serving in combat roles within the National Guard!
Rock Island, Illinois is a small town in Northwest Illinois. It was founded in 1836 by Captain John Richardson and his family. The town currently has a population of about 6,000 people. Rock Island is located on the Mississippi River and it is the largest city in Clinton County. The first post office was established in 1837. In 1886, the Rock Island Railroad was completed and it served as a link between Chicago and Rock Island. The railroad was closed down in 1971. In 1969, a new park called Lake Front Park was constructed in downtown Rock Island. The park has been used for various events such as concerts, basketball games, and track & field events.
Rock Island was one of the earliest settlements in Illinois. The town was founded by a group of pioneers in 1833, and was named for the large rock outcroppings near the town. By 1840, Rock Island had a population of around 100 people. In 1847, the first Methodist church was built on Rock Island, and it remained an important location for religious services until 1971. In 1865, a railroad was completed between Chicago and Rock Island, and the town quickly became a hub for trade. By 1870, Rock Island had a population of over 1000 people. Since then, it has undergone various expansions and renovations, including a new downtown district in 2002.
