In 1862, General Nathaniel Banks ordered the installation of two new batteries at Poston Heights on the banks of the Mississippi River. These batteries were used to shell Confederate forces during the Battle of Pea Ridge. During World War II, Rock Island became one of several U.S.-held areas located within Japan's territory during World War II. As a result, many goods and materials destined for Japan were diverted through Rock Island into storage facilities here before being exported back home by ship or air cargo. Some examples include foodstuffs like flour and rice; munitions like machine guns and rifles; clothing items like uniforms and shoes; tools like saws, hammers, nails and screws; vehicles like tanks and trucks; as well as vehicles built for Japanese soldiers such as jeeps and buses

By 1500 AD major European civilizations such as England had developed infantry tactics based around Cannonfire formation where troops would fire volley after volley into enemy ranks hoping eventually one or more unit will rout or be successful enough against overwhelming odds thus earning bragging rights amongst friends while punishing enemies who have not followed suit by achieving numerical superiority through attrition or cavalry raids
