Rock Island, Illinois is a small town in the northwestern corner of Illinois. It's located on the Rock River, and it has a rich coffee history. In the early 1800s, farmers in this area started to grow coffee trees. By the 1840s, there were several small coffee businesses in Rock Island. The first large coffee business was established by General David Dixon in 1847. Dixon ran a successful business that exported beans all over the United States. In 1850, John A. Sibley founded the Sibley Coffee Company in Rock Island. This company became one of the largest coffee companies in America at its peak. Sibley's customers included many prominent people including Presidents Ulysses S. Grant and James Buchanan as well as First Lady Julia Child and her father Paul Child (the founder of L’Atelier de France). The Sibley Coffee Company was also responsible for introducing roast types such as Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Sumatra Sulawesi to Americans. The local community also played an important role in supporting coffee businesses throughout its history. In 1881, businessman Julius Rosenwald donated land to help support several local cafes and restaurants across Rock Island County (which includes Rock Island) and Cook County (which includes Chicago). These new businesses soon began Toasting than selling their own cup of Joe, but they all shared one common goal: providing quality customer service and showcasing the region's rich coffee culture through delicious snacks, sandwiches, pastries and drinks from their establishments!

Rock Island is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, seat of Rock Island County and located on the Mississippi River. The population was 27,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Kankakee Metropolitan Area and is one of the most populous cities in Illinois. The city proper had a population of 54,709 as of 2017, making it one of the most populous in Illinois. Other large settlements within its boundaries include Mount Prospect to the north and East Stroudsburg to the east. The first Europeans to enter what is now Rock Island were French fur traders from Quebec in 1671-72 who named it "Island," after an island nearlayed by their ship on their way upriver from Montreal. Jesuit missionaries began arriving in 1701 and called it "Rochester." In 1814, when Congress created Rock Island County, they divided it into two parts - West Iron County (which included all present-day Kane County) and East Iron County (which included only Rock Island). In 1847, after Iowa Territory was formed from Missouri Territory following Kansas' admission into that territory as a state, East Iron County became part of Iowa; West Iron did not become part of Iowa until 1907 when its area was split between Kane and Winnebago counties along with other adjacent counties during territorial reform which also gave those two states their current borders. Rock Island's incorporation as a municipality occurred on May 14th 1857 under charter number 5171 from five Indiana men - John Pemberton (owner/manager), Ebenezer Higginbotham (builder/contractor), Asa Packard (manageur), Isaac Crespo ( undertaker) - who had come down riverboat from Vandalia just prior to passage through Nauvoo Rapids for Sangamon county government duties ashore there before reaching Quincy about May 12th having heard about an election taking place for officers then being held on Quincy court house square; this act establishing municipal government followed general sales tax increase occasioned by Special Session Laws giving effect thereto passed by Territorial Legislature that day special session convened pursuant to authority vested therein given by 3rd article § 1st section 2nd paragraph thereof Constitution providing: “That no class or corporation whatsoever shall enjoy exclusive privileges or immunities under this Constitution except such as are hereby specifically granted” A fire destroyed many buildings in downtown Quincy on October 20th 1858 due largely to defective building construction techniques then prevalent; this event led to increased demand for better construction methods across much American society at that time although some progress has been made since then including recent upgrades to downtown Quincy's infrastructure which have resulted in significant reductions in crime rates over time despite continuing challenges faced by that community related issues such as poverty, lack thereof public transportation options etc... In 1955 Mayor Walter Briggs offered his resignation effective noon September 30th due principally to health problems resulting from diabetes mellitus but he refused because he wanted another term even though illness prevented him from serving full terms previously enjoyed including 10 years before that date... On November 6th 1961 City Council adopted Resolution No.� 8� recommending annexation by village of Northfield into City Limits thereby creating a unified government for both villages together with all necessary services currently provided separately thereto including police department; this resolution received unanimous approval from City Council members... On January 4th 1963 City Council adopted Resolution No.� 9� recommending annexation by village of Ardsley intoCity Limits thereby creating a unified government for both villages together with all necessary services currently provided separately thereto including fire department etc.;[2] these resolutions received unanimous approval from City Council members However,...On February 26�1963 Alderman Jerald Wicker vetoed Resolution No.� 9� citing concerns about possible loss of revenue if annexations were approved without appropriate voter referendum... thereafter Alderman Wicker introduced concurrent resolution �Requesting vote upon annexation request be postponed until Amending Bill Status report can be filed�[3] which failed 3-0.. thenceforward efforts continued towards annexation being made through various means such as letter writing protestsetc.... finally on April 7ths 1966 Vision Action Committee submitted ordinance proposing annexation proposals for consideration at next Regular Municipal Meeting.[4] these proposals resulted in successful vote approving annexed communities onto City Limits without any opposition See attached files The first European settlers arrived on what is now Rock Island Township date unknown but likely around 1671 when France sent fur traders upriver seeking trade goods with Native Americans living near present day Kane Co., IL Jesuit missionaries began arriving early 1800s calling it "Rochester" After coming ashore they founded Missionaries order here until 1830 when Indian Removal Act forced them out US claiming land west side Red Lake Creek according to History Book ISBN 0-87728-034-1 whereupon mission stations stopped existing & name reverted back back to Rochester

Rock Island, Illinois was founded in 1837 by the brothers Isaac and Jacob Riis. The town was named after a hill on the west side of the city that served as their farmstead. The original settlers were Germans, but soon enough Italian immigrants started arriving as well. In 1847, Rock Island became a county seat and it remained so until 1907. It then became a part of Chicago. At various points during its history, Rock Island had a population of over 20,000 people. Today, only a few hundred people live in the town proper and most of these are involved in agriculture or other related businesses. The first residents of Rock Island were: Isaac Riis (born 1795), German; Jacob Riis (born 1800), Dutch; John Palfrey (1802-1892), Englishman; Nicolaus Schofield (1807-1868), American; Fridolin Kappeler (1797-1867), Swiss-German; Johannes Koenig (1799-1872), Danish born immigrant who died young; Peter Koppelman (1800-1866), Russian born man who also worked as an interpreter for General Lawyer John Cranch at Fort Dearborn during the War of 1812; and Wilhelm Weisel(1796-1873).

In 1872, the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Railway (CWM) came through Rock Island and started passenger service between Rock Island and Chicago. This led to the town becoming known as "The Gateway to the Midwest". In 1907, Rock Island was incorporated as a city.
